Well, that’s me over and out until the 14th September! 👋

I worked today to get a nursery ready for its relaunch, then spent the afternoon giving the van a well-deserved deep clean. Everything is now organised and ready for Paul to start, so when I return, we can get straight to work and crack on with a very busy autumn!

I honestly can’t believe the incredible support you’ve shown me throughout the summer or how much work is already booked in over the next three months, right up until we break for Christmas. You are all amazing, and I genuinely can’t thank you enough. ❤️

I’ll reply to any messages when I can, but for now it’s time to sort a few things out, enjoy a little break and hopefully return fully recharged.

🤔 Decisions, Decisions… Big Plans for Steveo’s!

Steveo’s is currently very busy, with around 350 regular window-cleaning customers. With two men working, it will take us around 4 days over the 5 weeks to keep the regular window-cleaning round running, which then leaves plenty of time for gutter clearing and all the extra exterior work.

I could have had a lot more regular customers, but after years of being a one-man band, I unfortunately had to get rid of some of the bad payers, constantly locked gates and jobs that simply weren't working for the business. And as most of you know, I’m never on time 😂 — there simply haven't been enough hours in the day!

Paul is keen, raring to go and ready to start on the 14th, which is going to make a massive difference.

I was up late last night sorting out my first VAT return and organising all my work right through until Christmas. I counted up my gutter jobs and couldn't believe it — 68 gutter clearings already booked in! 😳 Absolutely amazing.

Looking at the way Steveo’s is going and the potential it has, I've got some big decisions to make.

I really want to push the gutter-clearing side of the business, so I'm now looking at potentially taking on a young lad part-time. I would train him up personally alongside me, and once both he and Paul are fully trained and working to the standard I expect, the plan would be to eventually send them out together.

That would allow me to concentrate more on building and growing Steveo’s.

I'm not coming off the tools — you'll definitely still see me out working! But after 12 years of hard graft, I think it's time I took a small step back, recharged the batteries and gave my body a chance to recover, while putting more time into running and growing the business.

For the right young lad, there's some serious potential. Once fully trained and able to complete the work independently to a high standard, there could be the opportunity to earn up to £20 an hour, with the longer-term possibility of having their own Steveo’s van.

From January, they would need to drive or be able to reliably get themselves to me in Ripon.

Decisions, decisions… 🤔

Sitting here completing my first VAT return, I’ve just realised how much I’ve invested in my business during the first five months — an incredible £14,000!

I just thought I’d give everyone a little insight into what it actually costs to run a professional exterior-cleaning business.

I’m sometimes questioned about my prices and told that somebody else charges much less. However, there is far more involved than simply turning up and cleaning windows.

That £14,000 has covered:

• The correct business and public liability insurance
• Van insurance and maintenance
• Professional equipment
• Office costs
• Accountancy fees
• Uniform and workwear
• Business phone costs
• Fuel
• Maintaining and testing my purified-water system
• And many other everyday running expenses

Steveo’s Exterior Cleaning Services is a fully legal, legitimate and insured company. I invest heavily in the best equipment so that I can provide a professional, reliable service while keeping customers updated through good communication.

My purified water is tested every morning and evening to ensure it remains 100% pure, helping me achieve the best possible results. I also carry the correct insurance, giving customers peace of mind that they will be properly protected if an accident or breakage ever occurs.

I completely understand that somebody else may offer to do the job for less, and I’m certainly not saying that every other window cleaner provides a poor service. There are many excellent professionals within the industry.

Unfortunately, there are also some uninsured and unreliable operators out there. Before automatically choosing the cheapest quotation, please do some research, check that the company is properly insured and ideally obtain at least three prices.

My prices reflect the investment, protection, reliability and quality of service that every customer deserves.

📢 A QUICK UPDATE FROM STEVEO'S

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has already sent me their updated contact details. I really appreciate it. 😊

If you haven't yet, could you please send them over when you get a spare minute? There's no massive rush — just whenever you have time.

Things are looking positive with the new member of staff! He's been really keen, has already dropped all his paperwork off and is due to start on 14th September. His uniform has been ordered and I've also invested in new equipment ready for him. 💪

He'll initially be working alongside me and fully trained to make sure everything is done to the same standard you've come to expect from Steveo's. Once he's fully trained, there will be days when he's out working independently.

This is also why I'm changing the way I let customers know their windows have been cleaned.

Instead of posting cards through the door, once the clean has been ticked off on the day's worksheet, I'll send you a text confirming that your windows have been cleaned. 📱✨

Hopefully this will:

✅ Stop cards getting lost or missed
✅ Make things easier for my new member of staff
✅ Prompt quicker payments
✅ Reduce the need for payment reminder messages

It's all part of making the business run more smoothly as Steveo's grows, while still keeping the same personal service and standards.

🎉 GREAT NEWS FROM STEVEO’S! 🎉

After nearly 12 years of doing pretty much everything myself, I’m really pleased to say that Steveo’s is officially growing! 🚐💦

I've just finished an interview and I'm delighted to say Paul will be joining Steveo’s Exterior Cleaning Services from 14th September! 👏

Paul will initially be working alongside me while I personally train him to my standards and the way I like things done. I’ve spent 12 years building my reputation and gaining the trust of my customers, so I won't be throwing somebody in at the deep end — he'll be properly trained before working independently.

Once he's ready, there will be days when Paul heads out in my van on his own, keeping your windows sparkling and providing the same friendly, reliable service you've come to expect from Steveo’s. 🪟✨

This is a massive step for me personally as well as for the business.

I've worked extremely hard for a long time and I'm finally at the stage where I need to take a little step back. Having Paul on board will hopefully mean I can have some much-needed extra days off, while knowing the business and my customers are still being properly looked after.

Don't worry though... I'm not disappearing! 😂

I'll still be very much involved, still out working, still seeing customers and still making sure everything is done properly — I just won't have to try and do absolutely everything myself anymore.

So when you start seeing a new face alongside me, make sure you give Paul a warm Steveo’s welcome! 👋

💙 A BIT OF AN UPDATE FROM ME & STEVEO'S 💙

As a lot of you know, I've been struggling with a few pain issues recently and I've been advised that I need to start slowing down a little.

The problem is, when you're self-employed, "slowing down" doesn't pay the bills, the VAT, the van, the equipment or all the other costs that come with running a business! 😂

So after nearly 12 years of doing pretty much everything myself, I think it's finally time for the next chapter of Steveo's.

I'm currently in the process, fingers crossed 🤞, of bringing someone on board next month. He'll work alongside me, be fully trained by me and learn exactly how I like things done. Eventually, when I need a day off or some time to recover, he'll be able to take my van out and provide the same standard of service you've come to expect from me.

I'm also in talks with a younger lad about joining me a couple of days a week and helping with canvassing and bringing new work into the business.

The goal? Enough work to eventually have two lads working full-time, while I'm still very much involved and hands-on, just without having to physically do everything myself every single day.

After 12 years, the workload is starting to take its toll and I need to start working a little smarter.

I'm incredibly proud of what I've built. Steveo's currently ranks amongst the top results on Google across Ripon, Harrogate and Thirsk, and we've also been recognised on ThreeBestRated.

I might not always be the cheapest — some of you probably think I'm the most expensive 😂 — but my prices are consistent regardless of which area you live in. I invest heavily in professional equipment and always aim to provide the same 5-star standard, clean after clean.

This year I pushed the business towards the VAT threshold, and the support from all of you has been unbelievable. I wouldn't have got here without customers continuing to book, recommend me and trust me with their properties.

Now it's time to hopefully grow Steveo's again while giving my body a little bit of a rest.

Nothing is set in stone yet and, as we all know, things don't always go to plan! But I'm currently talking with two potential members of staff and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Please bear with me while I work everything out, and I really hope you'll continue supporting Steveo's Exterior Cleaning Services through the next stage of the journey.
