A bowl with foot.
Chawan for matcha
Thrown and faceted while still on the wheel to keep the form loose. A new form I’m playing around with.

This glaze is a temoku style made with waste material in rust as the colouring agent. Iron oxide is so versatile in reduction firing depending on the percentage used, and the other materials in combination. I love the rich dark tones and how it breaks on the edges.

This one is coming with me to to next month. Sunday 13th September I’ll be up in London. Come find me.

Landforms is live.
And that’s my shop stock update now live. Open for looking and perusing. Everything listed is from this year. Most fired in my new wood fired kiln, and some from Bills Olsen kiln.

It’s mostly yumoni, jug karaf (they sit well together) and plates. I’ve listed a couple of biwls too.

Serving bowl. For a hearty meal for yourself, on on the table to share a summer salad. Thrown and trimmed leaving a little more weight in the base than my usual ramen bowls.

This one has some heavy ashing on one side which has created a rich contrast of tones around the outside. Brushed with local clay slips, it holds the Dorset landscape. Ash glazed and wood fired.

Four little bowls. Close up.
Two of each, could be a set, a pair, a duo.

The first two are shino over local Dorset clay slip. Giving that nice contrast of white against the warm orange tone of the wood fired clay body. And the second duo are glazed with wood ash and temmoku.

These wee pots are thrown on the wheel, and are the same style as my little coffee cups, just little bit wider and shorter. Just four available for your kitchen or dining table. Snack pot, hummus, ice cream.

Small oval plate. These are some of the few pieces I hand build. They are rough and ready slabs of coarse clay. I hand stretch them like a badly made pizza. Then add extra bits of local clay crumb and rock impressed into the surface. They are then left to dry, and the edges formed just slightly.

These have layers of glazes brushed in a loose style, so each one is a different canvas. Woodfired to bring out the rich toasty colour pallete. The can be used to serve up a small plate of nibbles, biscuits for elevenses, candle tray, to hold incence or palo santo.

Still working towards the shop update.

These wall sculptures will feature. They are some of my favourite pieces to make. Thrown and altered on the wheel, I like to push them to the edge of collapsing to keep some fluid movement in them.

I’m pondering on how to best display their 3D quality. I’ve seen a few artists using AI to render example rooms. While they look good to represent the work, I think I’m going to stick with simple display for now. Just because the use of AI is something that doesn’t sit well with me.

And yet here I am showing you all this on here, oh the irony.

It’s been a while since I did this

First batch of photos done. So much to think about. Backdrop - to have props or not. Light or dark. Other pieces in frame or just single objects.

Then there’s the camera settings. I feel like my camera is old now, it’s a canon 1300D, with a 50mm lens.

Here is a jug for the table. Of course I wanted to show it pouring because that’s pretty important. I have so many jugs that are rubbish, so I wanted it to be a good one.

A small batch of pots going onto my online world this Saturday 18th. This one will be one of them.

Up early. Just to enjoy slow time while the day is cooler and less frantic. A little bit of planning and then in the studio to get the rest of the photos done and my work catalogued.
