📓 Notes from the Studio, Vol. 01

Lately I’ve been wanting to share more of the process, not just the finished outcome, so I’m bringing Notes from the Studio to my socials ☺️

This week has involved everything from experiential retail concepts to continuing work on my Collective Quarter project.

Some ideas are still rough sketches, some are already taking shape in 3D, and others are somewhere in between. The joy of being in a creative field is you’re never short on what to add to your to do list 😅 But I do really love the process of something going from an idea bumbling around in my brain to something I can tangibly see or hold.

Tell me, how’s your week been? And do you enjoy this sort of content?

🍃 Sustainable Spotlights | Material Highlight: Mycelium

What if the future of materials could be grown rather than manufactured?

Mycelium, the root structure of fungi, is emerging as one of the most exciting innovations in sustainable design. Grown using agricultural waste and requiring minimal resources, it offers a biodegradable alternative to many traditional materials.

Its real potential lies in challenging how we think about production: creating materials that work with nature, rather than against it.

A fascinating glimpse into what the future of circular design could look like.

Industry Insights: Colour in your space

Colour is often one of the first things people notice about a space, but its impact goes far beyond aesthetics.

The colours you choose can influence how people feel, behave and connect with your brand before a single word is spoken.

Want your space to feel calm, welcoming, creative, luxurious or energising? Colour can help guide that experience.

In this week’s Insightful Insights, I’m sharing a simple introduction to colour psychology and how you can use it more intentionally within your space.

Which colour do you naturally gravitate towards in interiors? 🎨

✍🏻 Designing commercial spaces with intention and creativity

I created Surface & Soul for brands, businesses and creative organisations who want their spaces to feel more considered and memorable. Whether that’s through creating a unique pop-up, a people-stopping retail moment, a hospitality space, a display, a school environment or a small interior refresh - I believe your space should be working just as hard as you do.

I’m currently building the foundations of my design studio, which means there are accessible ways to work with me, with services starting from under £100.

So whether you need a little clarity, a fresh perspective or a bigger concept brought to life, I’d love to help you shape a space with purpose.

My DMs are always open, or you can contact me via email or WhatsApp (link in bio) to start the conversation 🤍

🍃 What if a school memorial garden could become more than a place of remembrance?

This concept explores how an existing memorial garden could be rejuvenated into a space that feels welcoming, accessible and meaningful for today’s pupils.

Situated between the creative subject classrooms, the garden could become an extension of learning itself, with opportunities to display student sculptures, artwork and creative projects throughout the year.

The planting scheme has been designed with biodiversity in mind, incorporating pollinator-friendly species to attract bees, butterflies and other wildlife. The space could even become part of a wider eco-project, giving pupils the opportunity to take ownership of planting, monitoring biodiversity and caring for the garden over time.

Alongside remembrance, the aim is to create a place for reflection, connection, creativity and learning, ensuring the space continues to serve both the school community and future generations.

What features would you include in a school wellbeing or memorial garden?

🍃 Sustainable Spotlights | Brand Highlight:

Colour has always been one of my favourite elements of design.

It has the ability to completely transform how a space feels, influencing atmosphere, emotion, and the way people experience an environment.

So finding a brand that celebrates the power of colour while also challenging the impact of traditional paint production is something I find really exciting.

COAT Paints are rethinking what a more responsible approach to decorating can look like, with sustainability considered throughout their process, from low VOC, water-based formulas that are kinder to indoor environments, through to recycled packaging, reduced waste, and a carbon-conscious approach.

I recently completed training with COAT and now have a trade account, meaning I can offer clients access to their beautiful curated colour range alongside exclusive trade benefits.

For me, good design has always been about creating spaces that look beautiful, feel considered, and make better choices where possible.

Because the colours we surround ourselves with should be good for us, and kinder to the planet too.

What brands do you think are changing the future of sustainable interiors?

💡 Industry Insights: Impactful Pop-Ups

Designing a pop-up is a great way to extend your brand’s reach and create more connections clients and customers, but it can be tricky to know where to begin.

Most businesses make the error in thinking it’s a place to create a mini version of what the brand does in other physical spaces when actually it’s about creating a clear message, a memorable interaction, and a journey people actually want to engage with.

So whether you’re launching a new product, exhibiting at an event, or creating a temporary retail experience, a little strategic thinking can often have a bigger impact than a bigger budget.

Which of these tips do you think makes the biggest difference? 👇

🍃 Imagine your brand being a street stopper 🍃

After catching up on this week I couldn’t help but be inspired by the amazing installations that pop up across the borough as part of . And so ‘Verde’, a conceptual skincare brand, was created and brought to life in this visual.

It does make me wonder, could experiential retail replace traditional storefront displays?

And if you’d like to see how your brand could be brought to life, drop me a message and let’s get creating!

🍃 Sustainable Spotlights | Product Highlight: Jelly Stool by

One of the things I enjoy most about working alongside Design Conformity is being introduced to brands that are genuinely pushing commercial interiors forward through both sustainability and innovative design thinking.

is one of those brands.

Their partnership with Design Conformity focuses on independently assessing products against circular design principles including recycled content, carbon efficiency, material transparency, deconstructability, and end-of-life potential, helping move sustainability conversations beyond surface-level claims.

The Jelly stool, designed by Jones & Partners, is a great example of personality meeting purpose. Its playful form creates an instantly recognisable silhouette while remaining lightweight, stackable, adaptable, and suited to flexible commercial environments.

What I find particularly clever is how it embraces emotional durability alongside environmental responsibility. Furniture that people genuinely connect with is more likely to be retained, reused, and valued long term.

It’s encouraging to see more brands proving that sustainable furniture design can still feel playful, bold, and full of character.

What does truly sustainable furniture design look like to you?

🍃 Designing the ‘after moment’ of a wellness experience 🍃

I’ve been quietly working on The Collective Quarter over here in sunny Dorset and yesterday’s garden sketching lead to this concept for ‘s pop up space.

The dolls house had a handy little balcony at one end which I was going to ignore truthfully but then I thought that this unique feature provides an opportunity to extend visitors’ experience beyond the classroom. This seating arch, framed by foliage, isn’t just a photo op moment (although that is great for brand visibility) it’s for pausing and reflecting on the class that’s just taken place. A place to connect and breathe in the fresh air.

I’m really excited to build this in miniature in the coming weeks and show you all!

Lots of progress is happening behind the scenes so stay tuned if you’d like to see what’s coming next 👀

I’m curious to know, do you think brands should prioritise aesthetics or interaction? 🍃
