Shell Tractor oil lamp👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭

This one came about as one of my neighbors was clearing out an old barn. One of the things in there was a "Summer Shell Tractor Oil" can that looks to be many years old. It was very dirty and I didn't even realise it had writing on it until I cleaned it up and waxed it.

The lamp base was born. I wanted to give it an industrial look so I found a old driving spot lamp for sale. This one is really cool as it has louvers inside it which is almost like a shutter. The outer chrome casing has seen some miles but it just adds to the look. I have wired a low wattage yellow bulb with a nice brown fabric lead to match the rusty patina.

To finish it off i welded on a vintage tractor/plough spanner that sits below the light. It goes well with the theme and adds a bit of visual interest and an easier way to carry. This is a nice edition to my office!

Not a complex build but has lots of character and nice to think it would be something that would have been traditionally thrown away.

Stained metal mini 👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭

I made this one as a bit of a mini concept for a larger piece(coming soon). It's a bit rough and ready but it worked nicely and it came out better than expected. Based on the idea of a gothic stained glass window. The lovely flaky paint gives a flash of colour like a stained glass window would.

The blue frame/box is part of a draw from a fold out toolbox I have had for a while. Time to put it to some use.

Although it's very small, it took a good while to think about and put together. I had to cut slits in the edges to be able to fold the top into an arch. Overall I haven't seen a similar design before so I'm very happy about that. Fiddly is the term but interesting to have a go at! Keep an eye out for my larger piece that I will be posting about soon.

👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭 Excalibur!

Shrouded in mythology and folklore, well no longer. The sword exists! It took me forever to find at the bottom of a lake.

Jokes aside, I had fun making this one. It's a step away from my usual, but I was inspired by another recent creation I have made(coming soon).

One of my favorite features is that I used a giant King Dick spanner which I used the word King on the blade. I've saved the word dick for another project 😂. This is a reference to King Arthur who was the one who drew the sword from the stone. Although it was another version of the tale, it was embedded in an anvil on top of a stone, but the stone version is far cooler in my opinion.

The pick I used for the hand guard. It is really old and has incredible marks, scuffs, corruption and patina that has come up fantastic after a wax and is the perfect component for this.

I forged the head of the spanner into a more circular shape that sits at the base of the handle. This is called a pommel on a real sword after Google. It is still recognisable as a spanner but has been worked.

👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭All The Gear emblem.

I made this one as a gift for the boys on the YouTube channel called . I met up with Ethan at Shedfest who had some tools for me for a little side project of his own which I will do a separate post for (once complete of course)

Absolutely awesome day out and meeting someone who I watch all the time was wicked. He was an outstandingly lovely bloke.

I made this one using rebar to create the outer diamond shape. I have a draw of large old nails that made the perfect backing. Their logo is like the topography of a map that I tried to replicate. I then made some letters to go over the top the stood out from the backing to give it a more 3 dimensional look. I used a few different tools for those. I especially like the brass handle from a screwdriver for the letter T. It is mounted to the base using a spanner that I had heated up in the forge and twisted for no other reason than a bit of fun. The base is a large gear that I have no idea where I got it from but it's very appropriate.

Anyway, I'm sure you will hear about my court trial for using their logo in my video.

👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭The Spinner Fish.

This creation can be spun around due to the main body of the fish being based on a giant vintage hand drill. I wanted to keep the feature of head of the drill to be able to spin. It makes it fun to move him around.

The base which he's mounted on is a old engine rocker cover from Ford Es**rt MK3. What I like about it is it can be displayed both ways with one side that has a wavey edge and the other is a straight edge. This also works with the fish as that can be displayed in any direction so it can be changed around or you can pick your favourite combination!

What type of fish is he I hear you say? Well you will find them in scrapyards, hiding away in the under the bonnets of half dismantled cars that are piled up 10 high. Very shy as you can see he's not the prettiest.

👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭Howling Metal Austin mini door sign.

So I wanted to make a sign for any events I do in the future. But of course it had to be something that ties in with what I do. I bought a rear door from an Austin mini minivan. I really like the pickup trucks of yesteryear that had sign writing to advertise their businesses on their doors. I adapted an existing logo I had done to be more traditional and which I included the larch tree which overlooks the garage I do my creation in. I have also forged a spanner for a direction arrow to hang in the window frame as I thought it was more like an old shop sign.

I'll also use this post as a spring board about an event I shall be doing on the 23rd- 25th of May. As Derbyshire open arts isn't taking place a number of artists will be doing a similar style even in Coal Aston during that weekend. The local village hall and people's homes will be open to exhibit art with the one of the pubs also looking to get involved. I'm sure plenty more will be announced. As it's still in the early stages. There is limited info available but I shall posting updates as more become available, please feel free to message if it's something you would like to be involved in or would like to know more.

👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭 Bills bike!

This one began when I purchased a vintage letter stamp. When I took it apart the company bears the name of is "Bill Lomas Motorcycles Limited." So what else could I make from it other than a motorbike! I have found out that they are not far away in clay cross and are still in business. Involved in motorcycles since the 1930's and became a business in 1955. Bill Lomas being twice world champion and twice Isle of man winner!

I used one of the stamping plate halves as the front headlight. I preserved and kept in clear view the second part behind the front wheel. One part I really like is with the handle of the stamp in the "pressed" position, makes the bike seat. One of my favorite parts is the fuel tank that I shaped from a piece of old tubular frame with the nut that is on there as the fuel cap. Sitting just infront I have squeezed some dials in which are a speedo and a rev counter.

👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭Heart sculpture, "Operation cold heart"

Right, let's get the nerdy but extremely cool thing out of the way. You could call it the heart of the sculpture... it is made from a Tornado fighter jet RB199 jet engine's purge valve assembly.

The vaguely anatomical heart sits upon a geared mechanism which is the first ever piece I have created with a moving element to it. By spinning the end by hand, the heart rotates a full 360°. I have used a vintage hand drill laid on its side that converts horizontal rotation into vertical. I wanted to do this as a sculpture that can be viewed from all angles. It's also a fun interactive element for people to get involved with.

I have tried to use as many red parts as I could find to build up the exterior without painting any myself so that limited the parts I could use that I had to hand. Some of these include parts of a retired set of bolt cutters, the latch from a Jerry can and some red spanners.

Of my favorite aspects is the purge valve and all the tiny plaques, lettering and hand engraved part numbers, I have kept them all as visible as possible. It has flow direction arrows also which is very much how a real heart works so there is a great connection there.
