📢📢📢 Sheffield art in the gardens 2026📢📢📢

Not long to go for Sheffield art in the gardens. The largest outdoor art market in the north of England. There will be a huge amount and a variety of art from artists local and wider afield.

For those who are unfamiliar with what I make, I use old tools, scrap metal and interesting items to weld, forge and build Animals, creatures, industrial decorative items, candelabras and many other things that show history and patina of the items they are made from.

I will be down near the bottom entrance closest to Ecclesall road in the home and gardens section near the fountain.

I hope to see you there for a great day out, plenty to see, buy, eat and drink also.

👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭Rusty Barlow

This is our scarecrow for the village carnival we have once a year. I wanted him to have that crude knocked together look which you see in traditional scarecrows. Built using bit and bobs that are lying about. He has a Yamaha motorcycle tank for a belly, hobbing feet well for feet. I mustn't forget his snazzy sundial watch either. The square tubing is recycled from our Ozzy Osbourne from last year.

His head is reversible. One side is a farmer and the other is a minor due to 2 professions from past and present I. The local area. He can also keep an eye out both ways for those pesky crows!

It's all a bit of fun and there are already some excellent ones in the village in place for the competition over the weekend!

Hook-Tail Jack👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭

This is Hook-Tail Jack. A bird surrounded by folklore and myth.

He has been created for the up and coming HeART of Ashgate, an outdoor art exhibition with the proceeds going directly to Ashgate Hospice held in their gardens. Over 3 days, 7th to the 9th of August. There will be live music, food & drink and independent art stalls plus lots going on over the weekend. It will be held at Ashgate Hospice, Old Brampton, Chesterfield, S42 7JD. Hook-Tail Jack will be available in the silent auction, with the winner also receiving the story/folklore tale to go along with him plus a little extra. So come on down and support the day and everyone involved. If you would like to take him home then place your bid at the event!

Shell Tractor oil lamp👨‍🏭👨‍🏭👨‍🏭

This one came about as one of my neighbors was clearing out an old barn. One of the things in there was a "Summer Shell Tractor Oil" can that looks to be many years old. It was very dirty and I didn't even realise it had writing on it until I cleaned it up and waxed it.

The lamp base was born. I wanted to give it an industrial look so I found a old driving spot lamp for sale. This one is really cool as it has louvers inside it which is almost like a shutter. The outer chrome casing has seen some miles but it just adds to the look. I have wired a low wattage yellow bulb with a nice brown fabric lead to match the rusty patina.

To finish it off i welded on a vintage tractor/plough spanner that sits below the light. It goes well with the theme and adds a bit of visual interest and an easier way to carry. This is a nice edition to my office!

Not a complex build but has lots of character and nice to think it would be something that would have been traditionally thrown away.
