Surprise! Yes, I'm still here. Woodcrafting has been on the back burner for quite some time now as my day job has taken off really well. However, I decided to finish one item that I'd started last summer - a patio table made from a slab of pine from the Maid of the Loch steamship's slipway bogey. The reconditioned iron legs were obtained from marketplace, and I fabricated the brace bar underneath to stiffen the legs nicely. The slab was originally covered in tar which I'd rubbed back with a grinder wire brush, then sanded, then flamed with a blowtorch before applying a couple of coats of wax.
Final task was delivering it to my Mum for a surprise birthday present. Happy to say she loves it.

Yes, I'm still here! Just not had much chance to craft anything last year for various reasons until December there when I decided to finish off a couple of figurines for my brother - a groot and a short eared owl (promised in 2020 😳).
I also completed a commission for a outdoors cool box cooler for milk deliveries to which I've added my own twist - I call it a Coobox.
Also, when making a few snowmen for krimbo tree decorations one morphed into an R2D2.
Oh, and happy new year folks.

Apologies for the lack of updates folks, been concentrating very much on the day job. However I HAVE been itching to get back into the workshop and finish a project I started during the summer. But I'll be a tease and leave you there for now 😁

Eating spoon made from a piece of cherry. Lovely natural purple colours in the grain. Has a wee hole where the knot fell out so will (probably) keep for myself.

Hand carved sycamore slab stool with legs turned from a split log of elder secured with a wedge of hardwood (mahogany I think). Finished with 3 coats of beeswax.

Little timber-wolf* figure made from a piece of driftwood fencepost. I quite like this for a first attempt - the grey staining by the sea suits it don't you think?

* see what I did there? 😀

New Year =
Hi folks, I've been quiet in here but busy at home with some new projects:
Shavings are from an ash axe handle I'm having a go at.
Also been making more display stands and teelight holders, some coffee/tealeaf scoops, and been having a go at carving wee bears. What do you think?
Have also set up a wee studio to help me catalogue my items for my etsy page.
