I'm a very happy shopkeeper this week, as I can finally share a secret with you! I'm super delighted to say we've made it to the finals of the Dumfries & Galloway Life awards.

Flourish is a finalist for the Independent Retailer of the Year category, sponsored by The Smiddy, Wigton. Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate us. I'd love you to share in this celebration too, as Flourish wouldn't exist without the support and encouragement of my lovely customers and all of the amazing small brands and creatives I get to share with you all under one roof.

I'm in wonderful company, and congratulations to my fellow finalists and all the others across every category. It's so nice to see some familiar faces. Flicking through the pages is a lovely reminder of just how much talent, heart, and hard work there is in our marvellous region. Thank you to Dumfries & Galloway Life magazine for championing our local hero's and our region year after year. I'm really looking forward to cheering everyone on at the awards ceremony early next month.

November is going to be an exciting time as we're also celebrating our 5th year. Thank you for helping to keep the high street flourishing!

Did you watch Dragons Den tonight? I did, apart from it being one of my favourite programmes, it was also so lovely to see The Northern Pasta Co. in the den.
Deborah thought the spelt pasta was delicious! And it really is. If you'd love to try it too then you can find it on our shelves here at Flourish Dumfries. We also stock their cookery book too which is full of delicious recipes.

We've a new window here at Flourish. I ended up staying late on Saturday after we closed to swap everything around. I've filled it with a range of products from our Refillery. But you'll also find some sustainable swaps that make it easy to cut down on plastic at home.

You can find natural bleach, white vinegar, dish soap bars, bamboo toothbrushes, eco dental floss, recycled tea towels, steel scourers, compostable sponges plus loads more.

If you've never used our refill service, then please just ask. I will happily show you how it works and you can have a sniff of the different scents.

I am hoping I can encourage some passers by here in Dumfries to make small changes and help better our planet. Come and have a proper look inside our shop in Dumfries on the High Street, beside the Midsteeple. Why not bring some empties and refill!

I've managed to enjoy some sunshine the last two days while the shop has been closed and I've been working at home. But looking forward to the new week ahead. I've to change around the window and will be rejigging some of the shelves. So apologise in advance if the shop is a little topsy turvy when you come and visit. Please do ask if you cant find what you are looking for! We're open as usual Tuesday to Saturday from 10am until 4.30pm. Pop in if you are in Dumfries you'll find lots of new arrivals and something a little bit different if you're hunting for a gift or a card.

Introducing The Nurture Network!

I've been working together with Emma the Enterprise Manager at Midsteeple Quarter to create a new monthly networking event for women in business across Dumfries & Galloway. Whether you are just at the ideas stage or you are years into your business, everyone is welcome. Come as you are, have real conversations, make genuine connections, and leave feeling supported and inspired.

I'm not a huge fan of traditional networking. Walking into a room full of people I don't know fills me with fear, can feel icky and anxiety-inducing. But I know its an important part of running a business. So Emma and I wanted to create a relaxed, welcoming space where women can make connections, share skills and support each other without those feelings. Shaping the events was also informed by the responses I gathered from the results of a survey I created for members of my women in business Facebook group - Dumfries & Galloway Women in Business

Our first event is happening on Wednesday 29th July, 6-8pm at The Green Room, The Standard, 139 Dumfries High Street.

We will start the evening with an activity to connect in small groups and then I will deliver a practical workshop: Social Media Planning Without the Overwhelm. If you are looking to get more organised and strategic with your social media content, this is for you. Before Flourish I've spent over 25 years working in the creative industry, marketing, PR and further education, as well as a Creative Director for an award-winning social enterprise.

I know I'm biased. But I have a beautiful shop — and I'd love more people locally to discover us.

A lovely lady came in today, had a look around, told me she absolutely loved it and would be back. Then mentioned she never really comes into town anymore.
It got me thinking. How many people are out there who just don't know we're here?

If you've ever walked past Flourish and never come in — please do. I am more than happy for folk to enjoy a browse, have a chat and be inspired. We're at 111 High Street, right next to the Midsteeple. Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4.30pm.
