I have found another project!

She's in quite a poor state of repair and initially I thought she was 'reproduction' when I stripped the hessian and webbing off (lack of tack holes). On closer inspection she's been rebuilt, not very well, but her bones are sound & solid mahogany I think.

Really pleased with the transformation of these chairs. The animal print works really well with the scale and colour of the chairs, much more tasteful than the stripes, and the gold in the velvet catches the light.

The frustrations of upholstery #574

Back to staples. That's how many came from the piping. You can see that there are loads still attached.

Can you see any staples in the second pic? No? Me neither. You have to feel for them with the tip of a flat screwdriver and prise them up. Very time consuming and eventually a little painful. If you try pulling up the fabric it tears (velvet, how we love you...) You can't use pliers because of the paintwork. Am I selling the joys of ripping out?

And then there were two!

I've just had a very nice couple of hours drinking tea & chatting with one of my badminton friends. Oh, there was also a wee bit of upholstery & a garden tour 😏

I'm selling the dining chairs & nursing chair if anyone is interested. Feel free to share.

I'd assumed these chairs were 1980's ladderbacks but the frame stamp is for utility furniture (c1940's). Utility furniture was made using 'scrap' wood unsuitable for other purposes. IMHO it's leagues above the modern stuff 😳
