We used to use turnips instead of pumpkins to make Halloween lanterns. Strongly suspect this was just to keep kids occupied for hours on end as we strained our wrists trying to scoop out the rock hard contents of the vegetables using just a teaspoon. Turnip Spiced Latte, anyone?

Under the horse chestnut.

Inspired by Sunday’s walk at The Argory, where I stepped onto a soft, fuzzy carpet of green and rust underneath the trees. I think the conkers are a happy bunch, excited for the joys of autumn, and are a cheerful counterpart to my mushroom illustration from Monday.
