🔧 Sculpting Ireland's Story Through Steel & Wood 🌿

Hi, I’m Ashley Curran, a metal sculptor based in the beautiful countryside of Northern Ireland. Together with my wife Lisa, we run

our small art business from an old cottage workshop where history, nature, and craftsmanship collide. Inspired by Ireland’s rich heritage and industrial past, I work with found materials—rusted steel, wood, and other forgotten treasures—to create art that tells a story. Each piece is infused with the spirit of the land, the people, and our connection to both. My work can be found at Jim McKee’s Art Gallery in Donaghmore, and I often collaborate on custom projects, bringing new life to old relics through detailed, handcrafted designs. My sculptures are as much about storytelling as they are about form, blending Celtic symbolism with modern materials. I believe art is a way to connect deeply with our past while crafting something meaningful for the future. Whether you're drawn to bespoke pieces or simply want to follow along on my journey, I’d love to share this artistic adventure with you. Check out my work at AshleyCurranArt.com and let’s make something beautiful together. ✨

Meet my latest oak figure—this one stepping out with a more heroic stance.

I’ve been exploring the idea of how posture alone can tell a story. Bold, bright, and unapologetic, this piece carries a sense of confidence, movement, and playful strength.

Made from reclaimed oak, each section has been hand-carved and coloured, pieced together with steel rod joints to allow for dynamic poses. I love how these figures start to take on their own character as they come together.

Sometimes we all need to stand a little taller, brighter, and take up space. This one’s doing just that. 💥✨

What does this pose say to you?

New piece — “Heartwork” ❤️🪵✨

Hand-cut, hand-shaped, and full of colour — this one’s all about love stitched together from life’s different textures. Carved from solid oak, every piece is shaped individually, then brought together around the heart.

It’s messy, layered, imperfect — just like real love, real life, real work.

Which colour’s your favourite in this one?

✨ Meet my latest figure sculpture — full of colour, character, and a bit of attitude.

Each piece is hand-carved from oak, connected by solid steel bars, and painted with playful bold tones to celebrate movement, individuality, and the slightly chaotic beauty of being human.

She’s a bit glam, a bit punk, and definitely one of a kind.

If you’re into vibrant art with a touch of rebellion — stick around 🎨⚡

Hollow Hunger
This piece was born from a quiet ache — not for food, but for connection, tradition, and meaning.

The sculpture and poem are two halves of the same story — one told through steel and timber, the other through words.
A reflection on modern comfort, cultural memory, and the spirit we may be losing touch with.

Swipe to read the poem and see behind the scenes.
Let me know what it stirs in you.

“Heart of Gold”
A little reminder that strength and softness can live in the same place. I had so much fun playing with shape and shadow on this one—balancing bold gold with deep greens to let that heart shine from the center.

Let’s talk colour!
This piece came together like a perfect awkward family photo—everyone’s a little different, but somehow it just works.

I went with a playful combo of muted golds, sage green, powder blue, and soft peach—because why not make geometry feel like a warm, sunny morning? The colours feel like a stroll through a pastel dreamscape with a side of symmetry.

If you’re into colour stories, bold shapes, and handmade work straight from an Irish studio—hit that follow and come along for the ride!

From dust and timber to something sacred.

This piece started with a 150-year-old French plaster crucifix I found at Jim McKee’s art studio, and from there… it took on a life of its own.

I designed and built the Gothic-style fretwork backing by hand, layering each detail to echo the cathedral windows that have always inspired me. It’s not often I create for someone other than a client—but this one is for my wife.

Full build in 44 seconds—watch the process unfold.

Let me know what you think in the comments—especially if you see meaning or symbolism I didn’t plan.
