Things currently not at the emporium - but could be if you wished it so - included this rather fabulous Dunhill to***co jar. Personally, I think it would make a great decorators prop for a Barber’s shop or similar retail or service type establishment. Or, what with some men being awkward buggers to buy for, give him one of these. To keep his man bits in. No, not those, madam. Car keys. Nail clippers. Nostril hair trimmer. And what have you. It would be a boon for someone like me because I’m forever losing things.

Ah, yes, now here’s another thought. Are there a men here. Gents? Buy it for yourselves to keep your, um, particulars in. I don’t go a bundle on the term ‘man cave’ myself but if you do have one, I’m not one to judge.

Anyway, I must be off. I can’t be sat here idling, as pleasant and social as it has been. Pop a note through if there’s anything you’d like particularly to see in my cabinet. Apart from prices. I do apologise btw. Coming soon. Promise. Off we go then…

I only have a small shop window at the Emporium. This is only a tiny fraction of what I have available for sale. Art I’d one of the core things I like to collect as well as sell. Probably because it goes beyond decoration and can mean something on a completely different level.

The first of these ten piece is a view of Portofino, c.1920. The intense, vibrant colours sing out and somehow capture the glamour of the Italian Riviera playground of the rich and famous.

It’s the work of the sculptor, CharlesRobinson Sykes. His most famous work was the Rolls Royce car mascot, the Spirit of Ecstasy, which was created in 1909 as a commission for Lord Montagu’s Silver Ghost.

Given that he painted for pleasure, Sykes paintings rarely come to market. An early 20th century view of Hungerford Bridge in winter sold at Christie’s for £2650 in 2013. Not an extortionate sum when you consider the pedigree.

This piece is on sale for at a more modest price. If you’d like the pleasure of seeing it everyday in your home, message me for further details on this or the other pieces.

We love glass. All kinds of glass but 20th century glass in particular. This piece is by master glass artist, Peter Layton. It’s from his Lava series and dates from the mid 80s. The classic button-top baluster shape is one of his signature forms.

‘Well it certainly sounds like a genuine Picasso, Martin. But I’d have to see it to be sure. Yes do, we’re open until 5. Bye.’

Love those nostrils.

Hampton Court Emporium, however, is open every day until 530pm. 5pm on Sundays. We haven’t any macaroons, I’m afraid. But we’ve antiques a-plenty.

I have a confession to make: I’ve been living with Sir Hugh Casson for longer than might be thought decent or proper by polite society. So… the time has come to release him back into the wild.

I say ‘wild’, I’ve actually brought him with me to Hampton Court. Which is about as wild as a night in bible reading with Ann Widdecombe. But a lot more appealing, diverting and pleasant all round.

He’s available for sale to be precise. You think he’d make an amazing gift for an architect. He’s been framed in natty lacquer and chrome, so he’s desk, mantelpiece or shelf ready. The wry, self-deprecating, very British quote is the clincher.

Find me an architect. Quick! This shame cannot continue. I know it’s only June but you know how time flies. Christmas is coming, you know. Think on.
