I wanted to bring a little bit of autumn into the house… but without turning it into a pumpkin farm 😂🍂

So I’ve picked three simple things from Dunelm that I’d use to make a neutral new-build feel more autumnal:
🤎 a warmer-toned throw
🤎 a cushion with a bit of texture
🤎 a simple decorative piece

Nothing too seasonal. Nothing that I’ll be sick of looking at in November.

Just warmer colours, softer textures and a few little changes that make the house feel cosier.

I think that’s one of my favourite things about having a new build — you can slowly layer in the character and warmth that the house doesn’t naturally have.

I think one of the things I love most about our home is that it hasn’t happened overnight.

We’ve slowly changed things, added things, made mistakes, started projects, changed our minds and gradually made this house feel like ours.

It’s not finished, and I don’t think it ever really will be.
But it’s ours.

And after three new builds, I think that’s the bit I appreciate most — taking a blank house and slowly turning it into a home for our family. 🤍

If you’re new here, we’re a family of four slowly making our third new build feel like home — with a lot of decorating, DIY, family life and probably far too many projects along the way.

The trees we chose for our new-build garden 🌿

One of the biggest things we wanted to get right in the garden was privacy.

New-build gardens can feel quite exposed, especially when you’re surrounded by neighbouring properties, so we’ve been thinking carefully about what we could plant now that will make a real difference as the garden matures.
We’ve gone for 8 trees in total:

🌿 6 × Red Robins — 2 at the front for privacy between our front and rear garden, and 4 to help screen neighbouring windows.
🤍 1 × Silver Birch — our statement tree at the bottom of the garden, which I’m so excited to see grow into a real focal point.
🍂 1 × Beech — chosen for privacy, but also for that beautiful seasonal change and winter interest.

They might look small now, but we’re definitely playing the long game. 🌱

I’m so excited to watch these grow and see how much they transform the garden over the next few years.

A little utility room appreciation 🤍 because I don’t think I’ve ever actually shared a still of this space.
And honestly, I’m just enjoying seeing it looking relatively calm for once 😂

This room has to work HARD for us - laundry, storage, everyday family life and all the random things that don’t really have a home elsewhere.

It’s definitely not the most exciting room in the house, but getting these practical spaces right has made such a difference to how the whole house feels.

Slowly making even the functional spaces feel like our home 🤍

The kids and husband disappeared for a few hours and I had visions of sitting down with a coffee...
Instead I decided the house desperately needed resetting. 😂
And naturally, whilst tidying, I started thinking about everything I want to tackle next.
The kids’ bedrooms need SO much more personality.
I’d love to make the bathrooms feel a little more considered (and actually work better for us).
The snug desperately needs painting.
And then there are approximately 700 other little projects I’ve mentally added to the list.

I really do think I’m incapable of just finishing a house. 😂
There’s always another idea, another room I want to change, another little thing that could make it feel more like us.

What would you tackle first?

A little weekend at home 🤍

Although I’m not sure “exciting” is the word I’d use. 😂
We actually went to watch an F1 sprint race live... and somehow managed to pick the most boring sprint race imaginable. 😂🏎️

The kids have also fully discovered the PlayStation, which makes me feel about 100 years old because Crash Bandicoot is basically the only computer game they’ll actually play — because it’s what I played. So apparently I’ve successfully passed that down. 😂

The utility was, for a brief and glorious moment, fairly clutter-free, which meant I could actually do some laundry.
We had an overnight stay in Windsor, came home to what feels like an entire Lego shop spread across the house...
And then there’s the garden. 🌿

Everything is finally starting to properly bloom and flourish, and I’m ridiculously happy about it.
These Red Robin standards were only planted 8 weeks ago and I genuinely can’t believe how much they’ve grown already.

It’s funny because I spend SO much time thinking about the next project, the next room, what I want to change...
But actually, this is the stuff I want to remember too.
A slightly rubbish F1 race.

Kids playing the same game I loved growing up.
Too much Lego.
A suspiciously tidy utility. 😂
And a garden that’s finally starting to look like it’s always belonged here.
Just normal weekend things. 🤍
