Böhemianna Sussex based artist creating original artwork and providing illustration and design services

I am a multi disciplinary artist living in the sunny sunshine coastal town of Eastbourne in East Sussex. Growing up in Ghana with a Ghanaian mother and British father who both encouraged me from an early age to pursue my creative side, I have always been enthusiastic about anything to do with art, craft and creative expression. After completing my BA Hons in Fine Art at Kingston University, I move

d back down to the south coast where I have truly explored many aspects of my artistic passions (from working in product design briefly, dipping my toes in interior design, a spot of teaching and turning to my other great love of cooking for a while!). I now work predominantly as a self employed artist and illustrator and continue to offer traditional design services and catering to the fine folk of Eastbourne and beyond! For more information on available artwork and services I provide, please contact me via website (link in bio) or drop me a message.

Well, November started on a rather splendid note. My submissions for the annual Society Of Eastbourne Artists Autumn/Winter exhibition were three of my most recent works, a collection of collage paintings reflecting on my memories of childhood associated with ‘s album “Graceland”. The three paintings prompted interesting conversations with other members, visitors and the judges and I was thrilled to find that Graceland III was awarded the Herald Trophy, which is the first prize, and which I am very encouraged by and grateful to receive ❤️ My practice is not only my career path, but also a sentimental journey for me. Having it recognised in such a positive light and sparking engaging conversations is so affirming to my passion of being a creative and a maker. I also really like these trophy trinkets 😂✨ lil magpie that I is.

Graceland I, II & III will be exhibited this weekend 16/17 & next weekend 23/24 at the Landsdowne Hotel along with other artists as part of the & under the curation of . Swing by, say hi 🤩

In a living room in the suburbs of Accra, a family’s differences were momentarily forgotten and laughter, dancing and merriment filled the space they were in. No anticipation of tomorrows and regrets of yesterdays; an optimistic present. I wonder if Paul Simon and his cohorts, who created the inspiration that is Graceland, had the faintest idea of the impact that little disk, picked up by the daddy on a trip to Botswana in 1992, would have on this family. The daddy strictly listened to classical music and the mummy was a gospel fanatic. Both openly despised each other’s musical tastes and sometimes each other. But with this one exception, which came out every other Sunday afternoon. A collaboration between black and white really did become a collaboration between black and white. An exquisite harmony. All affectations fizzled into thin air and the rows and rifts of lovers dissolved and diffused. Their states changed in those moments. This particular memory has become, to me, almost sacrosanct.
And so in these collages and in that living room, I found solace of a land brimming with grace. Plucked out of their intended space within a book which was now collecting dust and placed within a space curated from memory. For memory. Weaving together elements that have differing characters to bring together, like a symphony orchestra; cohesion. Balance. The way that we felt on those Sundays as we sneaked sips of froth from daddy’s beer and felt warmth when we’d spot the affection in their eyes towards each other, and us. The daddy gently held the nook of the mummy’s waist as they danced, laughing, and we watched them while the music played and we all listened to Paul Simon’s Graceland.
, thank you 💛

Graceland I, II & III will be on view at the Landsdowne Hotel, Eastbourne on November 16/17 & 23/24 as part of the Eastbourne Open Houses.
