Buying a new machine this Christmas or in the sales?
These are some things that we would consider....
Bobbin type: Top loading bobbins are less fiddly and you can see how much thread you have left.
Front loading bobbins offer more control over bobbin tension.
Stitches: Do you really need a lot of fancy stitches?
Does it have the basic stitches you will need?
Stitches: Does it have an automatic buttonhole or
4 step buttonhole?
If this is something you'll be sewing a lot then the 1 step is much easier!
We would always recommend buying a sewing machine from a specialist shop that offers ongoing support with your machine.

Our final workshop of 2025 will be .studio.eastbourne making these useful gift bags! Join us on Wednesday 3rd December.
Each bag can be made from a fat quarter of fabric and has a card pocket and gift tag loop. You will leave with your finished bag plus the instructions to make it again in a variety of sizes.
