Super delighted that Tracy Chevalier will be giving a talk and opening our exhibition ‘Adornments: Venetian and Bohemian Trade Beads’ on Thursday 14th November at the Starborough Farm showroom. Tickets are now available in Eventbrite. ‘The Glassmaker’ is a beautifully-crafted story of a young woman who creates lampwork beads and saves the fortunes of a Muranese glassmaking family. She spins stones across the lagoon to tell 500 years of Venetian history and the fascinating roles of trade beads.

Can anyone help to identify the maker, subjects or technique of these extraordinary “Chinese” worry beads please? 🙏 The paintwork looks “powdery” under the “cased” glass and there is script on the reverse of each bead. Featuring male and female characters, could they be from the Dr Fu Manchu novels by English writer Sax Rohmer?
