✨ Happy New Year to you all! ✨
As we step into the year ahead, we (Mathilde and Jonathan) wanted to take a moment to share what we do — and how we can help shape your next project.

🪡 Bespoke kiltmaking
Every kilt we make is entirely hand-made and fully custom. More than just measurements, each project starts with getting to know you: your personality, your lifestyle, and what you want this kilt to say about you. Our kilts are a world away from hire kilts or standardised garments — each one is made with intention, time, and care.
✨ A small but important note for this year
Our work is in very high demand, and our calendar — especially over the summer — fills up quickly due to tourism-related activities.
If you’re hoping to commission a kilt, particularly with a summer deadline, we strongly encourage you to get in touch early so we can organise measurements and plan the project properly. We’d much rather plan ahead with you than have to disappoint you later.

🎓 Workshops & talks
We offer workshops and conferences about the kilt, tartan, and their history.
They can be delivered in English or in French, and are suitable for the general public, private groups, institutions, and events. Sharing knowledge is a big part of why we do what we do.

🎨 Tartan design
We design original tartans for families, organisations, and special projects (in person or remotely), including support with weaving in Scotland and everything that comes with it — from the first idea to the finished cloth.

📩 If you’re thinking about a kilt, a tartan, or a workshop this year, get in touch to discuss your project with us! 😊

Here’s to another year of beautiful cloth, meaningful projects, and shared stories ✨

Today is Black Friday — and as you may have noticed, we’re not taking part.
We wanted to share why, respectfully and openly. 💛

Behind Auld Alliance Kiltmakers, it’s just the two of us: Mathilde and Jonathan.
Every kilt we stitch, every tartan we design, every accessory we craft — it’s made by our hands. 🧵✨
And everything else behind the scenes — the photos, the admin, the emails, the packing, the accounting, social media, all the quiet, invisible work that keeps a tiny artisan business alive but takes a lot of time and skills — that’s also us. 📸📦💻

We pour a lot of time, passion, care, and experience into what we make.
Handmade work moves at a different rhythm: slower, more attentive, more human, but is very demanding. 🌿
Keeping a traditional craft alive today is something we’re proud of, but it’s also a delicate balance.

Our prices reflect this reality. They’re not set with discounts in mind — they’re simply what allows us to pay ourselves fairly, honour our craft, and work with the Scottish mills and partners we trust. 🧶🏴
Offering big sales would mean rushing, cutting corners, or undervaluing the work that goes into each piece.
And that doesn’t feel right to us.

So we choose not to do Black Friday.
This for us, a way of staying true to who we are and how we work, and a way of stepping back from the pace and pressures of the world we live in today, where things are often made too quickly, too uniformly, and at the expense of the people who make them.

If you’re able to, we’d be grateful if you continue supporting artisans, independent makers, and small local businesses — today, and whenever you can. 🛍️🌟
Your support genuinely keeps our craft alive.
Thank you, truly. 🙏✨

We’re happy to share another piece from our shawl collection: our Scotland Forever tartan shawl. 🧵
This tartan has such a classic, vibrant Scottish character, and seeing it as a shawl feels both bold and timeless.

We only have a very small number of shawls left — sometimes just one of each model — and they won’t be restocked before 2026.
If you were thinking of gifting one for Christmas, now is definitely the right moment to grab yours before they disappear. 🎁✨

Handmade by us in Edinburgh, using fabric woven in Scotland 🧶

🇬🇧 The end of the year is approaching and our stock is already getting lower… 🎄✨
Since many of you are starting to plan your gifts, we thought it would be helpful to share a quick recap of our last order and shipping dates. This way, you can organise your purchases with ease and receive your pieces on time.

Here are the key dates to keep in mind 👇

In-stock products: available to order until 12 December, while stocks last.
📦 Many items are already low stock — once sold out, they won’t be back until next year.

Bespoke products (requiring a special tartan):
✂️ Orders accepted until 5 December.

UK shipping:
📮 Parcels will be shipped until 15 December, usually in time for Christmas.

International shipping:
🌍 Delivery times cannot be guaranteed (postal services are not providing clear estimates).
🎁 If you’re ordering for Christmas, we recommend doing so as early as possible to secure availability and allow enough time for delivery outside the UK.

This summer, we had the pleasure of creating Paul’s kilt for his wedding at the beautiful . 🌿✨

A huge thank you to him and Linsey for their trust — Paul had a tartan specially woven that was deeply meaningful to him, and we worked closely together on every detail: the exact colours of the yarn, the pleating and details  the kilt…
It was exactly the kind of project we love, full of passion, precision, and great conversations.

We wish Paul & Linsey all the happiness in the world ✨🤍
Thank you again for choosing us — and for sharing these beautiful photos taken by the incredibly talented  with us. 📸

✨️ We’re delighted to introduce a new tartan to our shawl collection: the Hame tartan.
It is woven in the Scottish Borders by Lochcarron of Scotland in their lightweight quality, which makes it wonderfully soft with a beautiful, fluid drape.

We hope you’ll love the colours of this tartan — inspired by Scottish nature, from misty stones to purple heather and yellow gorse.

Order yours now on our website.

Did you know that kilts don’t have to be made from tartan? 🧵
We can also make them in beautiful tweeds woven in the UK. These stunning fabrics come in deep, natural tones that can blend perfectly into an urban landscape—or even feature subtle tartan-inspired patterns.

Whether you prefer something classic or want to explore a different style, we can help you find the fabric that best suits your wardrobe and personality. Do you prefer tweed, or tartan?

If you’d like to discuss the different fabric options for your kilt—or if you’d rather go for tweed instead of tartan (even though there are hundreds of tartans available!)—don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Our order book is now fully booked for the rest of 2025, so if you’re thinking of having a kilt made, we’d be delighted to create one for you in 2026.
Get in touch via DM, via email or our website. 😊

🍂 It’s been a while since we last introduced ourselves — so here’s a little bit more about us! 🍂

We are Mathilde & Jonathan, two passionate artisan kiltmakers.
Originally from France, we trained in Scotland with several kiltmakers, and opened our independent atelier, Auld Alliance Kiltmakers, in 2021.

What we do:
👗 Bespoke kilts — entirely hand-sewn, bespoke and crafted with respect for Scottish techniques.
🧵 Tartan design — unique creations for families, businesses, and institutions, a symbolic and creative part of our work we truly love.
🎤 Talks & workshops — from history and culture to hands-on practice (pleating tartan or making small tartan accessories), allowing everyone to learn more about tartans and kilts!

Our values:
❤️ Excellence standards — every stitch matters, and we never compromise on the details that make a kilt truly exceptional.
🌍 Inclusivity — we believe kilts are for everyone, regardless of gender, size, or background, and we are proud to create them for all.
🤝 Respect & ethics — we work by hand, with integrity and transparency, honouring the technical traditions of kiltmaking while ensuring our clients are involved at every step.

Everything in our business is done by us — from kilts to tartan design, workshops, accessories, emails and even social media. Whenever you interact with Auld Alliance Kiltmakers, you’re speaking directly with Mathilde or Jonathan.

👉 If you’d like to know more, if you have questions, or if there are topics you’d love us to cover here or on our blog, let us know in the comments.

And of course, if you’d like to order a kilt, commission a tartan, or organise a workshop/talk, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’re delighted today to share photos of our client Clément, based in France, who entrusted us with the making of his Auld Alliance kilt. 🇫🇷✨

He came to see us in Scotland for his fitting and later for the delivery, and it was a real pleasure not only to craft his kilt but also to help him choose his kilt pin, socks, and shoes. Now we are truly thrilled to see him wearing his kilt so proudly – it suits him wonderfully! 🧵✂️

We are always so grateful when our clients agree to share their photos with us, and we hope you also enjoy seeing our kilts styled in different ways.

If you’d like to commission your own kilt, don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’d be delighted to discuss your project with you.

✨ Our client Yoann kindly shared with us the stunning photos from his wedding, where he proudly wears the kilt we handcrafted for him in the Glen Afric tartan from House of Edgar.

We spent months together planning every detail of his outfit. He had his beautiful sporran made by Mackenzie Leather, in the same hide as his kilt straps, we helped him picking the perfect tweed jacket and waistcoat, as well as his knitted hose by House of Cheviot.
Yoann planned the rest of his outfit to fit his own personal style that reflects his warm, friendly and fun personality, and we love it!

Seeing the full outfit come to life, surrounded by his family and loved ones, is such a joy for us. It’s always an honour to be part of these unique life moments.

💛 Huge thanks to Yoann, Caroline and their children, for their trust.

📅 If you would like to plan the making of your own kilt with us, get in touch today to book your initial appointment with us!
