Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest.
Apparently.

Because while normal people are lying on the sofa watching Netflix and enjoying life, I’m sitting with a cup of tea wondering how many bouquets I need to sell next week to keep the lights on. 😂☕

So I think, “Right, I’ll be productive and stick a few posts on local Facebook groups.”

Three seconds later…

🚨 ADMIN HAS ENTERED THE CHAT 🚨

“Sorry, no advertising allowed.”

Honestly, some of these admins appear quicker than my staff when somebody shouts, “There’s cake in the kitchen!”

Now don’t get me wrong, I understand groups need rules, but how are small businesses supposed to get their name out there? We can’t advertise, we can’t post, we can’t breathe too heavily in case it breaks a group guideline. 😂

I reckon every small business owner is the same on a Sunday. While everyone else is enjoying their day off, we’re doing admin, replying to emails, sending proposals, planning social media posts, ordering stock, checking bank accounts and wondering if we’re actually running a business or starring in our own personal episode of Dragons’ Den.

People see the flowers, the shop, the nice photos and think, “Aww, that’s lovely.”

What they don’t see is me sitting on a Sunday afternoon, three cups of tea deep, having a full-blown business meeting with myself. ☕☕☕

Then people ask me why I don’t just get a normal Monday-to-Friday job.

Why would I work 9 till 5 for somebody else when I can work 24/7 for myself? 😂

Being self-employed is stressful, exhausting and occasionally makes you question your life choices…

But then Monday comes, somebody orders flowers, and suddenly I’m back thinking I’ve got the best job in the world. 🌸

A day in the life of a florist… Saturday edition.

People always think being a florist is all flowers and making pretty bouquets.

Let me tell you about a Saturday.

Three times a week we bleach and scrub every single bucket in the shop and recondition all the flowers, but Saturdays are a different level altogether. You’ve got hundreds of stems needing cut, fresh water, buckets getting washed, deliveries arriving, and somehow every surface ends up soaking wet.

Honestly, by about 9am the floor looks like somebody’s burst a water main.

And that’s always the exact moment somebody walks in wanting a bouquet made up.

Not just any bouquet either.

“Oh, I’m just having a wee look.”

Aye, that’s never a wee look.

Twenty minutes later we’re discussing every flower in the shop, every colour combination possible, whether Auntie Jean likes lilies, and if pink roses are too pink.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to climb over a mountain of buckets, the hose is wrapped round my leg, Jen’s shouting from the sink that she’s lost her secateurs again, and there’s water absolutely everywhere.

Then you’ve got the singing.

Now, me and Jen think we’re brilliant singers.

Pauline strongly disagrees.

Every Saturday she threatens to send one of us to the chemist for earplugs. Not for her. For the customers.

The worst part is we don’t even know the words to most songs. We just confidently make them up as we go along.

Honestly, if somebody walked into the shop without seeing the flowers, they’d think they’d stumbled into some sort of chaotic musical where nobody knows what they’re doing.

Yet somehow, every Saturday, the buckets get washed, the flowers get conditioned, the bouquets get made, the customers leave happy, and we all survive to do it again the following week.

Although Pauline might eventually snap and actually buy those earplugs. 😂

POV: You think a corporate vase is just a few flowers in a pot… 🌺🍷

Every week we deliver flowers to Gaucho, and every week I tell myself, “Right Nikki, it’s only a vase arrangement. This will take five minutes.”

Five minutes later I’m standing surrounded by buckets of flowers, moving one rose half an inch to the left, stepping back, staring at it, moving it back again, and convincing myself that somehow that tiny adjustment has changed my life. 😂

The thing with corporate flowers is they need to work hard. They need to catch your eye when you walk into the room, complement the surroundings, and still look fresh and inviting days later.

For this week’s arrangement, we went for all the warm, fiery tones. 🧡❤️ Bright orange roses, rich cerise chrysanthemums, dahlias and seasonal blooms, all designed to bring a bit of colour and energy into the restaurant.

And honestly… when you’ve got a backdrop like Gaucho’s wine wall, you’ve got to make sure the flowers can hold their own. 🍷✨

It’s amazing how something as simple as a vase of flowers can completely change the feel of a table.

Would you have flowers in your home every week if you could? 🌸

🌺🍷✨

This bouquet is called our Cerise Crush Bouquet 🌸❤️

Honestly, sometimes I just look at a bouquet and a name pops into my head 😂 The cerise pink gerbera in this one just made it stand out so much that Cerise Crush seemed to suit it perfectly.

But if anybody thinks this bouquet deserves a better name… throw your suggestions at me 👀👇 I actually love seeing what names people come up with!

This bouquet is currently £85 on our website and is one of our most popular sellers. When people see bouquets online, they sometimes don’t realise just how much actually goes into creating them.

This one includes:
🌹 8 luxury red roses
🌸 Cerise gerbera
🌿 Snapdragons
🌸 Spray roses
🌱 Fresh foliage
✨ Plus all the presentation, wrapping, ribbon and gift boxing

The roses alone work out at around £32 worth of flowers before anything else is even added.

Then there’s the time spent conditioning the flowers, designing the bouquet, hand wrapping it and making sure every single bouquet leaves the shop looking perfect.

We’re really fussy about presentation as well 😂 We use thick luxury wrapping because we feel it gives bouquets a much more premium look and finish.

This bouquet is honestly one of my favourites that we do ❤️

Why ARE florist flowers better than supermarket flowers?

Now before anybody comes for me 😭 this is just my opinion as a florist, but I personally think going into a flower shop is more about the whole experience rather than just grabbing a bunch of flowers whilst you’re picking up your milk and bread.

When you come into a florist, you’re getting more than just flowers.

You’re getting advice, recommendations, colour combinations, different flower varieties, somebody helping you choose something personal, and somebody actually taking time to listen to what you like and don’t like.

Some customers love soft pastel colours, some like bright and wild, some hate lilies, some love eucalyptus — and that’s the difference. A florist can actually create something around YOU.

It’s more personal.
More bespoke.
More one-to-one.

And honestly, florists genuinely care about what leaves the shop. We condition flowers properly, fresh cut them, hydrate them correctly and make sure every bouquet leaves looking the best it possibly can.

That’s why no two bouquets from Nikki’s Fleurs are ever really the same 🌸

Whether you’re looking for a simple hand-tied bouquet, something wild and rustic, bright and colourful, or a luxury statement arrangement, we love creating flowers that feel personal to the person receiving them.

Supermarkets are great for convenience, but there’s just something special about walking into a florist and having something made especially for you 💐

And trust me… flowers mean so much more than people realise sometimes. They’re for birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, apologies, funerals, new babies and “just because” moments.

So if you’re looking to send something a little bit more personal, we’d absolutely love to help 🌸

🌻 This vase arrangement is one of those designs that just screams autumn. 🍂

When I’m creating something like this, I always start with the flowers that are going to do the talking. In this case, it was definitely the sunflowers. They’re bright, cheerful and impossible to ignore. Then I built around them with rich orange chrysanthemums, calla lilies, lilies, solidago and plenty of lush foliage to give it height, texture and movement.

What I love about vase arrangements is that they look effortless when they’re finished… but trust me, there’s a lot more thought that goes into them than people realise. Every stem has to be placed at the right angle, every flower has to have its moment, and the colours all need to work together without fighting for attention.

The best part? Whoever receives it doesn’t need to hunt for a vase, trim stems or arrange anything. It arrives ready to be admired straight away. 🌻🧡

I think this one would brighten up absolutely any room.

Happy Friday everyone! 🌸

Friday is definitely one of my favourite days of the week. There’s always a buzz in the shop, lots of flowers heading out the door, and we’re getting everything ready for another busy weekend.

The team have been working hard all week creating bouquets, funeral tributes, wedding flowers, and all the little bits in between. Some weeks fly by, and this has definitely been one of them!

If you’ve got a birthday, anniversary, celebration, or you just want to make someone’s day a wee bit brighter, we’re fully stocked and ready to help. 💐

Whatever you’re up to this weekend, I hope it’s a good one. And if you’re passing by the shop, pop in and say hello!

Sometimes you meet customers that genuinely remind you why you do this job. 🖤

The other day I had a lady come into the shop looking completely stressed out. She kept apologising because she “didn’t know anything about flowers” and thought she was being a pain. Honestly, she wasn’t. She just wanted something nice for somebody she loved.

So we started chatting away about colours, flowers, what kind of person they were, and before you know it we’d basically designed the bouquet together standing in the middle of the shop while I’m covered in leaves and there’s flower petals stuck to my leggings. 😂

When she came back later to collect it, she actually got emotional seeing it finished. That honestly gets me every time.

People think floristry is just “putting flowers together” but it’s not. Half the time you’re helping somebody say something they can’t put into words themselves.

That’s the part I love most. 🖤
