Better weather. The BBQ is on. Guests are arriving.

And suddenly, your kitchen becomes the busiest room in the house.

Summer has a way of testing how well your kitchen really works.

When everyone gathers, drinks need topping up, food is being prepped, and someone is always opening a cupboard.

A few thoughtful storage details can make all the difference:

Hidden drawers for everyday essentials.
L-shaped drawers that make awkward corners useful.
A butler pantry to take pressure off the main kitchen and give everything its place.

Well-designed storage doesn’t just look beautiful.

It helps you stay present with family and friends, instead of rummaging through cupboards when the BBQ is in full swing.

That’s the kind of kitchen worth designing. 🌿☀️

When cabinetry is designed with intention, it does far more than provide storage.

A fluted glass cabinet.
Open shelving.

Each selected with care and consideration.

Every detail has a purpose, balancing function, texture and colour to create a space that feels both personal and beautifully considered

This is one of my favourite features from a recent renovation project.

What do you prefer in a kitchen design? Hidden storage, open shelving, or a mix of both? 👇

Your worktop isn’t just a surface - it’s the centre of your kitchen, and the material you choose should compliment how you live.

Let’s explore a few of the most popular

💡 Laminate - The All-Rounder.
Endless colour choices, and some really convincing designs, including wood and stone-effect finishes
Be warned, it is less durable long term and will be impacted by high heat or water around the joints

🌿 Wood - warmth and texture.
Best for those who appreciate a little natural evolution over time.
Although, require regular upkeep - they’re more susceptible to scratching, staining,
so not the best if looking for a low maintenance option.

✨ Quartz - polished, and timeless
Lower maintenance, and more resistant to scratching or staining
Word of warning, keep the hot pans at bay - recommend getting some trivets for protection

🔧 Dekton - the superman of worktops.
Extremely heat-resistant and scratch-resistant, and built to last.
Factor in price point - this is on the premium spectrum!

Every material has its strengths.
The best one is always the one that fits your lifestyle; how you cook, how you gather, how you want your kitchen to feel day to day.

When I walked into this kitchen at the beginning, it had good foundations - a beautiful AGA, classic cabinetry, but I could see it wasn’t working.

The kitchen was asking them to work around it rather than the other way around.

And so, I made the changes needed.

We kept everything worth keeping. The AGA stayed, but instead of blending in, we let it become the statement piece. The shaker style remained, but refined.

The colour change opened everything up. A soft, light green that lifts the whole room, complementing the existing tones while bringing in a freshness the space had been missing.

And then the storage. Deep solid oak drawers. Pull-outs. Everything within reach, nothing hidden in the back of a cupboard that never gets seen.

A kitchen designed around calm and accessibility

Seeing it now in use, full of life, is why I do what I do. 🌿

I didn’t plan to start this business.

A few years ago, I bought a family home in Edinburgh that needed renovating.

Not long after, I was diagnosed with cancer.

During that time, as I started redesigning the house, something shifted.

Design brought a part of me back to life.

It reconnected me with something I hadn’t given space to in years - thinking about how spaces feel, how they function,
and the support they bring through different stages of life.

That experience led me to start my own business.

It’s just passed four years since I started.

And honestly, I wouldn’t still be here without the support I’ve had along the way.

From conversations and recommendations, to the people who have trusted me with their homes - it’s all played a part.

So this is really just a moment to say thank you 🤍

To give something back, I’m offering £400 back towards a kitchen renovation for the next two months.

If you’ve been thinking about making changes to your home, this could be a good time to start the conversation.

When Sally and Ross first showed me their kitchen, it wasn’t living up to its full potential.

The layout felt restricted, storage was lacking, and the space wasn’t making the most of the natural light available.

We re-thought the layout to improve flow, removing the peninsula and introducing a large island that anchors the room.

We maximised every inch of space with full-height cupboards
alongside a hidden butler’s pantry that keeps everyday clutter out of sight but within easy reach.

Swapping out the bi-fold doors made a huge difference, bringing in more natural light and making the whole space feel brighter and more inviting. 🌟

One of the questions I’m asked most is what I enjoy about being a home designer.

It’s not the finished space... it’s actually the client-facing side of things! Surprised? I was, when I thought about it.

But after 20 years of having a ‘back office’ job, there’s a real buzz to the client facing role.

From understanding what isn’t working, what’s missing, and what someone really needs from their home, to then guiding them through the process and bringing clarity to something that can often feel overwhelming.

What do you enjoy most about the process? Whether you’re a homeowner, designer or part of the trade - let me know in the comment’s 🤩
