For any birthdays, engagements, new babies, thank yous and get wells, I am always just a message away and will always do what I can to make you some beautiful blooms to gift to someone special.

This bouquet was made for my lovely mum and my boys’ Mémé who we couldn’t be without and has always been my biggest supporter in this flowery adventure ❤️

My little Chelsea.

Far from a show garden, full of odds and ends and clutter. But also beautiful in its own way and brings me joy. It also smells amazing, people comment on it when then first see it. All in all, I’m proud of this garden.

The waiting.
That’s what growing is really all about: the wait for the seeds to germinate, the bulb to bloom, the flower to be ready to cut, the seeds to be ready to gather.

This Honesty has stopped flowering and is now forming its beautiful seed pods. I cut some of these stems for the house as I think they are just as beautiful as the flowers. Then I keep waiting and I can harvest the ethereal silvery dried seed heads for wreaths.

It’s very much a waiting game just now as the bulbs come to an end and I wait on the annuals but that’s okay, there’s peace in the waiting.

A bumper crop of ranunculus today 🤩 I adore these flowers but they are absolute divas - by far my most costly flower to grow from the price of the corms, to the cost of protecting them from frost and the time they require to nurture to their marshmallow fluffiness.

So, I’ll have 3/4 medium bouquets (ranunculus heavy with Honesty and Cowparsley) available TOMORROW for some bank holiday blooms.

I’d hate to see them wasted as I am so chuffed I’ve managed a good crop, grown here in Porty!

Message to reserve for collection from 10.30 tomorrow morning 🌸

A little bit about me 🌸

I’ve had a few new followers on Facebook and it made me realise that my previous introductory post was a little outdated so here’s a new one!

I’m Natalie, a 35 year old mum of two little boys, History Teacher by day and Flower Grower and Florist by night (and weekends!).

I’m originally from the south side of Glasgow but have been living in Edinburgh nearly 13 years when I moved here for my first permanent teaching job and I’ve never left - the city or the school!
We moved to Portobello in 2016 and it’s Home.

I’ve always loved flowers, with a keen gardener for a mum and enjoyed arranging supermarket bunches since I was a teenager working in Morrisons. But I grew increasingly fussy as I grew older and when we finally moved house and got a garden at the start of Covid, I realised I would be better off growing my own flowers. So I did.

This is my third year growing and selling flowers. I am self taught from hours and hours of avid research and from learning from the incredible gardening Instagram community. I have done some Floristry workshops and over the years developed my own style - natural, garden flowers.

I’m very proud of what I have achieved and how much I have improved. I hope to continue going from strength to strength, though I am awful at putting myself out there and the idea of networking is terrifying! So I will just keep on sharing my Portobello grown, organic and seasonal flowers with this wonderful community and see what the future holds!

I’m also a big ballet fan (I still go to classes), have a cake addiction…and a trainer one too! I love my job and find it a privilege to help young people grow into amazing adults. Spring is beyond a doubt my favourite season because not only is it the return of the sun and gardening, but it also involves a lot of my favourite colours - pink, blue and green; blossom, new fresh leaves and blue sky.

So thank you for following along! Do check out my saved highlights for growing tips and I’ll keep adding to these. Also let me know if there’s any other flower growing/arranging content that would be helpful 🌸

Late spring gorgeousness.

The tulips may have gone over for the year but there’s still plenty more to come. This beautifully scented lilac has stolen my heart and the pillowy ruffles of the ranunculus make me so happy after years of trial and error.

This is a medium bouquet going out today. Flowers are available Fridays and Saturdays - please message your order in by 6pm the night before - and weekdays with 48 hours notice.

The ranunculus are here! 🤩

I think it’s safe to say that the crates are the way forward as they have thrived in the heat and protection from the brick wall and I’ve been better able to monitor the watering and then covering in very cold weather. The ladybirds have done an awesome job too 🐞

Each week until they go (though I did do a smaller second succession of plants so I should hopefully have them until the end of May) they will be in my bouquets along with all the other gorgeous blooms that are coming through.

Just send a message to reserve your Friday/Saturday flowers or to ask about having some for another day as I will always try my best to accommodate so long as I’ve 48 hours notice.

Friday Flowers 17/4

This week sees the last of the main crop of scented narcissus along with anemone, tulips and white and purple honesty.

I can make small (£15) and medium (£20) bouquets and jam jars (which would contain these gorgeous blue muscari).

Just send me a message to reserve!

I should have the first of the ranunculus in the next few weeks so that is VERY exciting!

Spring is slowly coming

While the garden does not look like this, we are getting the beginning of the green shots of bulbs and the ranunculus and anemone are putting on their green foliage.

I’m hopeful to be back with my Portobello grown posies and bouquets mid April - maybe earlier as some of the bulbs have been protected by frost cloth - and I just cannot wait to get my hands on some fresh, seasonal, scented and sustainably grown blooms!

I don’t generally sell flowers that aren’t my own I am toying with ordering in flowers from down south for Mother’s Day - let me know if you’d be keen.

I’m planning a glow up of my front garden where I do most of my growing for sale and I’m thinking of getting a wee honesty stall set up to replace my wee greenhouse, I’d be keen to know if that would make you more likely to purchase my flowers?

I’m very aware my presence on here is practically non-existent just now, but there isn’t much to report on, so thank you for sticking with me!

Longingly looking back at photos of flowers from spring last year. If I had to pick, I think spring flowers have my heart ❤️ We just need them a bit more after winter.

Hopefully I’ll be back with these beauties and more on April.
