What you are looking at in this video is a classic mineralogical "identity theft" called a pseudomorph (literally meaning "false form").
These incredible clusters from the famous Daoping Mine in China started their lives as bright hexagonal prisms of Pyromorphite. Over millennia, chemical-rich fluids slowly washed over the crystals, replacing the original chemistry with Plumbogummite—all while preserving the exact original crystal shape.
In some of these pieces, you can still catch glimpses of the vibrant green or yellow pyromorphite peeking out from beneath a sky-blue coat of plumbogummite! It’s like a fossil, but made entirely of minerals.

These stunning specimens of Plumbogummite sourced from the world-renowned Daoping Mine in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region China.

These specimens represent a fascinating geological process where Plumbogummite (a rare lead phosphate mineral) has replaced the original hexagonal crystals of Pyromorphite retaining its distinct "hoppered" or prismatic structure.

The Daoping Mine is the gold standard for this species. While Plumbogummite is found elsewhere the structural perfection and vivid coloration of the Chinese material are unmatched. These clusters are highly sought after by collectors of secondary lead minerals and those who appreciate the aesthetic "architecture" of pseudomorphs.
