The under painting is complete on the first large scale portrait I’ve done in over 20years. I’ve done a couple of small ones recently and really enjoyed tackling a different subject.

Who knows how it will go so this may be the only time I post about it, but I do have a plan of where I want to go with it.

It’s always good to challenge yourself and keep things interesting, some things will work some won’t, the likelihood is I will be swiftly back to painting animals but it will be fun in the meantime.

Today is my last day of Cambridge Open Studios for 2026. It’s been lovely, wish I could be here for the final weekend next week but family commitments call.

Completed some Puffins this morning and now working on a giraffe on slate which should keep me busy for the rest of the day.

Second day of camopenstudios for this weekend. Haddenham Arts Centre has had a lovely buzz about it this morning.

I have also managed to complete the latest Hare painting I’ve been working on, still need to look at it for a few days just to make sure there are no changes but then he will be off to get a print then framing.

Well it’s the second weekend of Open Studios and I’m finally calling this one done, just waiting on his mount.

There are things I would change (there always is) but I like the boldness of colour, so much so I’m using the same pallet for my next painting.

What a lovely start to Cambridge Open Studios. As well as cards and prints three originals went off to their new homes.

Met some truly lovely people and had some great chats, though exhausting it is one of favourite times of the year.

Hopefully the rest of the month will be as good

Well time for something really different from me. I’ve decided it’s time to practice some portrait painting. Also had to play with some crackling medium as well of course 😂 Learned a lot and really enjoyed doing something different. I will be doing some more.

I’ve had a canvas under my desk for ages that I had used to test out a textured paste. Thought it was time I tried to turn it into something.

Sometimes it’s great to work on pieces with no expectation of a result. It’s just an opportunity to experiment and try something out of your comfort zone.

Had so much fun with this one and will apply elements of it in future work.

It’s been a while since I’ve painted any slates so decided it was time to get some done ready for Cambridge Open Studios in July. Hopefully I will get time to do a few more, it’s been enjoyable.
