Great Snoring School House | Case Study 🏡

There’s something particularly rewarding about designing for a home with this much character.

Our latest case study takes us inside Great Snoring School House — a former village school dating back to 1859, now a beautiful family home.
Rather than replacing everything, we looked carefully at what was already there and what was worth keeping.

Existing elements were refreshed, doors and panels from the previous kitchen were repurposed to create the new island, and new cabinetry was introduced where it would make the biggest difference.

The result is a kitchen that feels more considered and practical, while still belonging completely to the house.

Beautiful homes are meant to be lived in — muddy paws and all. 🐾

When we design kitchens, boot rooms and fitted furniture, we’re not only thinking about how a space looks. We’re thinking about everyone who lives there — including the four-legged members of the family.

From dedicated dog-washing areas and clever storage for leads, towels and food, to hidden spaces for robot vacuums and practical finishes that cope with everyday life, thoughtful details can make a home work much harder without compromising the design.

People often ask whether we both work on every project.

The answer is always yes.

Every layout, every material, every cabinet and every detail is discussed together before we present it to a client.

I focus on interiors, colours and how a space feels to live in. Anthony brings his expertise in furniture design, technical detailing and craftsmanship. Different perspectives, one shared vision.

You'll often find us exactly like this—coffee on the table, plans spread out and ideas being refined.

It's not the quickest way to design a kitchen or interior.

But we believe it's the right way.

Why Fox & Bear?

It's probably the question we're asked most often.

The truth is, the name existed long before the business.

I've always called Anthony "Bear".

In Polish, we often use affectionate nicknames for the people we love, and Misiu ("little bear") has always been my nickname for him.

As for me... with my auburn hair, Fox seemed rather fitting.

When we met studying design at university, we shared a dream of one day creating something together. In 2015, that dream became Fox & Bear.

In the early years, Fox & Bear grew alongside our careers. I worked for interior design studios, while Anthony freelanced as a furniture designer, with every project bringing us one step closer to building the business we had always imagined.

Almost three years ago, we took the next big step and opened our showroom in Fakenham. Today, it's where we welcome our clients to explore materials, craftsmanship and ideas, and where our vision for Fox & Bear truly comes to life.

Every project is still designed by the two of us.
I focus on the interiors, colours and how a space feels. Anthony brings his expertise in furniture design, technical detailing and craftsmanship.

Together, we create homes that are timeless, practical and deeply personal.

So when people ask why we're called Fox & Bear...
The answer is simple.

Because before it was a business, it was us.

As we always say, every project starts with a conversation.

Once we've got to know our clients and understood the way they live, the real design journey begins.
We carefully curate a palette of finishes, textures and materials for them to explore.

This particular project is for clients who have taken the time to understand and appreciate the character of their period home. As they described what they were looking for, it felt like we were speaking the same design language.

We invest time and thought into creating a kitchen that is truly theirs—one that tells the continuing story of the house, feels timeless, supports modern living, and looks as though it has always belonged there.

Antique Brass

A finish that gets better with age.
If you’ve followed us for a while, this won’t come as a surprise. We’re huge fans of antique brass. Its warm, golden-brown tones and softly burnished patina bring depth, character and a beautifully lived-in feel to a space.
This sample is hand-finished in the UK, meaning the subtle variations in colour and texture make every piece slightly different.

Classic AGA

Some pieces never go out of style.

An AGA is more than just a cooker—it's often the heart of the home. Timeless, beautifully made and full of character, it creates a kitchen that feels warm, welcoming and lived in.

Whether it's part of a traditional farmhouse or a more contemporary space, it's a design choice that always makes a statement.

Bobbin Detail

Sometimes it's the smallest details that make the biggest impact.

Bobbin detailing is making a real comeback, bringing character, texture and a subtle nod to traditional craftsmanship. Whether used on a kitchen island, wardrobe, boot room or a freestanding piece of furniture, it's one of those features that instantly elevates a design.

This beautifully crafted timber sample has been inspiring plenty of ideas in the studio lately.

Bobbin Brass Handle

It's often the finishing touches that bring a design together.

This solid brass bobbin handle from Plank Hardware is playful, elegant and full of character. It takes inspiration from traditional turned timber detailing but feels completely at home in both classic and contemporary interiors.

Hardware is something we encourage clients not to overlook—it can completely transform the look and feel of a piece of furniture.
