This evening saw a little party in celebration of this year’s very successful Art and Craft Market, and a thank you to the committee and volunteers who gave up their time and worked so hard for that success.
The Market exists to generate funds that support our wonderful Memorial Hall, which is such a valuable asset for Mawnan Smith, but which - like any building - requires costly upkeep.
The profits from the last two years’ markets were used to replace the outdated kitchen with a fabulous new one. This year’s money will fund upcoming projects such as redecoration, and the creation of a new cleaners’ space, as well as subsidising the cost to numerous village groups of hiring the hall.
And here’s the bottom line: the overall profit this year was £11,102.69, £3,029.95 of which came from the tearoom, where Loraine and Shelley worked tirelessly for eight busy days. That means that £8,072.74 came from the sales of our talented exhibitors - their art, their crafts, their produce. Thank you all for giving 25% of your sales to us!
And so we turn the final page on 2026’s Market.
Next year the Market will be from 31st July to 7th August, and according to Mr Ian Newman - who has been a lynchpin of the event from its beginnings - it will be the 50th.
Join us next summer to celebrate our half century!

THAT’S ALL FOLKS!
It’s a wrap for Mawnan Art and Craft Market 2026,
It only remains to say a huge thank you to all our fabulous artists, makers and producers who delighted us with their wares; our visitors, who came and spent their pennies and pounds; our ladies in the kitchen, especially Loraine and Shelley who have cooked many lbs of bacon and served umpteen cream teas; the kind bakers of cakes, traybakes and scones in the village, who have supplied the tearoom all week; our volunteers who (wo)man the tills and record sales, and/or help behind the scenes in so many ways, especially during set-up and take-down; the supportive villagers of Mawnan Smith, and last but by no means least - the Market Committee, whose hard work over many months has made this year’s Market such a success.
(Forgive me if I’ve left anyone out - you are all hugely appreciated!)
See you again next August!

The Morning After …
Doors closed on our 2026 Market at 5 yesterday, so this morning found us up at Mawnan Memorial Hall, helping exhibitors collect their unsold wares (and giving them the good news of their sales figures!), and then packing away all the tables, fittings, bunting et al, and restoring the Hall to a clean and tidy state, ready for its usual week of activities.
It’s a big, tough job, but fortunately there were many hands to help (some big and tough ones 😉).
Swipe through to follow the process and see the team at the finish line - still smiling 😊

The final exhibitors in our roll-call of all 66 at Mawnan Art and Craft Market this year are Anne and David Ellisdon, aka ‘Treleigh Craft’.
They are well known regulars at our Market, bringing a wide range of functional AND decorative textile products and decorations - far too many to list! Stand outs (for this ‘critic’ at least!) are the sweet little mice - such delightful characters!
What makes this display extra special is that all the money from Anne and David’s sales is given to charity.
Bravo Treleigh Craft! 🙌🏻💕🥳
You’ll find Treleigh’s makes in the right hand aisle of the Hall and on the right hand wall of the stage.
