Upholstery Works specialises in the restoration and recovering of your heirloom furniture and in the creation of bespoke headboards, screens, stools and scatter cushions. Working from a base in rural Angus, between Glamis and Forfar, Susan Houstoun brings to your bespoke upholstery 15 years of experience, a Distinction gained in AMUSF Diploma in Upholstery, personal service and attention to detail

. Armchairs and sofas are recovered and brought back to life, dining chairs or their drop-in seats are refreshed and refurbished, new headboards, stools and scatter cushions are created to your own designs. Clients choose whatever fabric they wish: local tweed or tartan, exotic silks, soft replacement leather breathe new life into treasured pieces and match them to new colour schemes, with footstools to fit perfectly in front of a comfortable sofa in your sitting room. Robust, attractive and comfortable, they will last a lifetime. Decorated with trim, buttons or studs, they will reflect your own taste and the character you seek. Stools have the option of turned beechwood legs in a variety of heights and finishes, to create a classic footstool, an elegant dressing table stool or a substantial “coffee table” footstool. Larger projects will be given consideration on an individual basis. Equine rug repairs and quad bike seat repairs can be carried out. Please get in touch with Susan for a consultation and quotation.

😔 not to be ski touring in the Dolomites this week as planned so today I visited Lyon & Turnbull's Spring exhibition "The Chair", an object utilised by most that excellently reflects developments in furniture design - from aesthetic trends to new materials and production technologies. The exhibition highlights include a named Darvel chair from the West Coast of Scotland, a Charles Rennie Mackintosh ladderback chair for Miss Cranston’s Tearooms, a bespoke piece by international contemporary designer Tim Gosling & a pair of Paul Tuttle ‘Zeta’ lounge chairs.
