The birds are chirping madly here this early morning. The sky is clear, the air is still, and the scent drifting through the garden as I wandered about was quite intoxicating.
As I strolled around with my cup of tea, I noticed that all the little plants I tucked into the new front garden over the past few weeks are doing wonderfully well. I never imagined I would become quite so enamoured with my garden. I have loved gardening for as long as I can remember, but lately I seem to be completely smitten with it.
I freely admit that I talk to my plants. I chat to the birds and all the other wildlife that comes to visit, too. And really, who’s to say they don’t understand? It brings me such joy. The Man understands and just smiles so happiness all round, and that can only be a good thing.
Of course, the fact that I am occasionally supplied with delicious cups of tea and thoughtfully prepared snacks by him makes the entire endeavour even more delightful.
It was pointed out to me that I haven’t shown you the front garden lately, so yesterday, between the downpours, I wandered about and took a few photographs. Can you see that we also added a sweet old bell to the new porch?
Now, when you come to visit, simply give it a little jingle and I’ll pop the kettle on.
Have a gorgeous Sunday, my friends. You know exactly where I’ll be. ♥️

Spring. A single word that inspires and invigorates us all.
Each day brings something new to admire in the garden, whether it’s the faint hint of green on leaves just about to burst, or the delicate powder-blue petals of the forget-me-not. Bluebells are beginning to sprout, and the lilac blooms, still tightly closed, seem to swell more by the minute, quietly promising their fragrance in the days ahead.
The birdsong in the early morning is as uplifting as it gets… and then comes that irresistible urge to clean, to paint, to refresh and begin again. Windows are thrown open, sunlight is sprinkled across the floors, and the whole house seems to breathe.
My sweet old quilts, used daily throughout the winter, are finally given an outing. They sway gently on the newly made clothesline, lovingly crafted by The Man, catching the soft warmth of the sun and the light spring breeze.
By evening, I fall into bed happily exhausted, the kind of tired that comes from a day well spent. And yet, come morning, I wake early once more, full of energy, full of anticipation, eager to begin again with a cup of tea in hand, of course.
Spring, a season of renewal, hope, and irrepressible joy. Feeling thankful hardly seems enough.
And so I linger a little longer in these moments, the light stretching into the evening, the air still cool but perfect to stroll through the garden with a blanket around my shoulders. I wander slowly and make a new to do list in my head and feel completely and utterly content. ♥️

This morning, instead of sitting down in my usual spot at the kitchen table, I decided to light my little fire in the dining/workshop room. Tucked into the hearth there is the sweetest little wood burner. It can only take small slivers of wood and needs to be tended often, so you really do have to sit with it to enjoy it.
It came to us in pieces, found at a lovely outdoor antique fair in Cornwall many years ago. According to the previous owners, it once sat snugly in the corner of a tugboat. It was used, they said, to heat Cornish pasties. As the man spoke of its provenance, my imagination went into overdrive. I saw fishermen gathered around this little stove, eagerly awaiting their meals, so carefully prepared earlier by loved ones. I saw their knitted jumpers and hats dripping with seawater, beginning to steam in the warmth of the cabin. I heard shanties being sung as they waited. All the while, the boat dipped and dived in the sea, froth from the waves shooting up into the sky and coming down like snow.
I also thought of their families at home, praying for their safe return that night. These pieces had to come home with me. Into the car they went, and soon we found a blacksmith who assured us he could get it working again. And he did.
Before anyone says anything, I know you must not stack wood right beside a wood burner, but this little one never gets that hot, and when it is lit I am always there, watching, listening, and enjoying the sight.
So, as the rain continues to fall outside, I will sit here and enjoy the gentle warmth from this stove. The fire murmurs softly, the room glows, and for a while the world feels smaller and kinder. In tending this little flame, I feel connected…to the past, to the sea, and to the quiet comfort of simply being still.♥️

Today is International Cozy Day. It isn’t an official date on the calendar, I created it a few years ago because I felt that so many of us are rushing around, trying our best, but in the process missing the quiet sweetness of life.
By “sweetness,” I mean the ordinary, everyday moments, when we take the time to truly enjoy them. Lighting a candle. Making a cup of tea. Noticing the way the light comes through a window. Savoring a small moment. Pausing to take a deep breath. Looking around and really seeing where you are.
Life brings all kinds of things our way scary, sad, worrisome, and sometimes downright horrible. But it also offers moments of simple joy, where being exactly where you are feels just right.
So today, I invite you to take a little time to do something just for you, something that makes you happy. It can be anything. There are no rules, and it can last as long or as briefly as you like. The only hope is that when you return to your day, you feel just a bit happier, more content… more cozy.
Sending you my most heartfelt wishes for a truly beautiful day. ♥️

As you can see in the video above, I’m sharing a product I was sent to try — and you all know I only ever recommend something if I genuinely love it.
This 100% natural drink is outstanding in so many ways. It honestly feels like enjoying a fabulous cocktail, but without the alcohol (just 0.1% ABV – alcohol-free). Having an option like this feels pretty fantastic to me.
I really believe it’s not always what you drink, but how you drink it. I love pouring this into a beautiful sparkling glass (mine’s from a charity shop ) and making it feel special with a garnish of rosemary, lemon, or whatever you enjoy.
Another lovely thing is the gentle heat it creates as you sip — you can’t rush it. It’s made to be savoured, and it’s such a delight to sit back and enjoy the experience.
Honestly, if you’re looking for a true alternative to alcohol, this might just be the one. If you try it, I’d love to hear what you think.
And happily, if you’d like to try it, you can get a special offer here:

Cheers, my friends!

Yesterday brought a sweet return to the feeling of Christmas… yes, Christmas.
You see, our dear friends from New York, Chris and Kathy ( ), whom we met in England over thirty years ago, sent us a Christmas present. This delightful hooked rug, circa 1880, hung in their home for many years and was always much admired by me. Whenever I looked at it, I felt transported into an old-fashioned world, with swirling snow all around.
This past year, our friends moved house, and they remembered my love for this piece. One day, not too long ago, it arrived, wrapped in love and sparkling with wishes that it now be cherished here. To say I was overjoyed would be a complete understatement.
The Man soon got busy, measuring the rug and finding just the right piece of wood for a proper backing so it could hang beautifully. All the while, and here is the Christmas part, the sweet, gentle sounds of festive music filled the air. Candles were lit, tea was made, and finally, we hung it up.
I arranged the lanterns, then stood back. Instantly, I was inside the picture, feeeling the crunch of snow beneath my feet, seeing the steam rise from the hardworking animals on the farm. I swear I could hear sleigh bells in the distance and cheerful greetings carried on the cold air.
How thoughtful and generous you are, Chris and Kathy. Thank you millions. I promise it will be loved for always.
Love you. ♥️

The Man and I decided to make use of a rainy day yesterday by doing a little rearranging. Well, I should say I thought it was a good idea, and he very kindly put down his newspaper, grabbed his toolbox and gallantly joined me
I’ve never been fond of overhead lighting. Instead, I much prefer lamps that create gentle pools of light, making a room feel softer and more welcoming. The challenge with this approach is that bedrooms can become rather dark, which isn’t ideal if you like to read in bed. I already had bedside lamps in a couple of rooms, but it all needed a change.
So we went from room to room, moving lamps from here to there, and in the process, we discovered that what we needed was already there. By simply repositioning the lights we owned, we were able to brighten darker corners, improve reading light where it was needed most, and create a better balance throughout the house, all without spending any money.I’m not suggesting you should never buy anything new if it’s truly needed, but it’s always worth starting with what you already have. Sometimes a fresh look is just a matter of seeing familiar things differently. And although all of my lamps are “old,” they now feel entirely fresh in their new places ,doing their job beautifully, and making our home feel warmer, calmer and, of course, much more cozy. ♥️

There are few things I enjoy more than coming down into my kitchen very early in the morning and lighting a few candles. The house is still and quiet, and I find it quite beautiful. As I strike that first match and the small flame springs to life, the joy I feel is hard to describe. It’s a simple mix of contentment, warmth, and coziness, all from one small light.
I have a little contest with myself to see how many candles I can light with just one match. Why, I’m not quite sure. Once they are all glowing, I put the kettle on for tea. This ritual is one I look forward to each day, whatever the season, though in the autumn and winter months it feels especially right. I leave the electric lights off and take a moment to think about what the day might bring.
I hold my mug of steaming tea with both hands, enjoying the warmth, and feel grateful for this quiet start. The next few days will bring more cold and snow, and while not everyone welcomes it, I do. These small, cozy moments create a calm beginning that can really shape the rest of my day. I am wishing you a lovely start to your day too. ♥️
