So my October was all about being in the house being quiet. After a great weekend in Belfast - I had a chest infection for 3 weeks. I did not more. So my October was comfy covers on the sofa, candles and bring cosy! Then Paco the dog was in hospital and prepped for surgery - which thankfully he did not eventually need - so he then spent time curled up on a different sofa. Scroll to see his shaved tummy! It was a last minute reprieve!

So apologies I did no Halloween - ( I don't actually like Halloween!) and no autumn seasonal stuff. It was all about making me comfy. But I did manage to get myself a bee print from .henry.prints and sone lovely flowers from .florists

Then last week I organised and had the biggest Mingle Event yet and now I am officially totally and utterly exhausted!!

So I am hoping November is a livelier and more energised month! I have got ideas!! But first a few days doing nothing! Hope you all have had a lovely evening x

I am quite enjoying making more of an effort taking photos just now. Life is busy and there is something about paying attention and concentrating on taking a photo that makes me even for a short time stand still. An interesting discipline for me . This might be my version of mindfulness!

So these are random moments that made me happy.

1. Tonight - on a cold night - looking in - happy it looks so welcoming!
2. A candle with my antique Singer Sewing Machine from 1904 in the background!
3. Fabulous gifted PR Island Dusk Body wash and perfume from at in my new dookit in my ensuite . I love that ensuite. It genuinely makes me happy every day. And What a fabulous new scent from
4. Beautiful Candles at home beside the model of my home made by . Such a special gift .
5. And a glimpse of a glorious West End Walk on Saturday! Just minutes from home and so beautiful.

I think these are "glimmers" aren't they?
Tiny moments that gave me joy. So I thought I would share them.
Hope you have all had a fabulous day xx

Took a wee break from organising the tonight to have a faff with this new art print 😅 So typical of me — when I’m really busy, I suddenly decide to do something completely different and pile on the pressure!

Anyway… how amazing is this print of the Duke of Wellington in Glasgow with his traffic cone hat?! I absolutely love it. Not just because it’s Glasgow (of course ❤️), but because it’s by my friend .henry.prints — and I know his lovely mum too!

I’ve tried it out in a few spots around the house — it looked fab in my black bedroom and my Green Smoke hall — but right now it’s on my Hague Blue wall and I’m very taken with it.

Damian’s such a talented artist, and he’s currently got a show on at as part of Glasgow’s 850th anniversary celebrations — definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby! ( you can also read about Damian and his show in too )

For anyone who doesn't know - The Duke of Wellington statue outside the Gallery of Modern Art has been rocking that traffic cone for about 40 years now — initially to the dismay of the authorities but boe its a proper Glasgow icon. And isl mentioned in many tour guides!!
So I am absolutely loving having Damian’s version brightening up my home 🧡 I have added a few of Damian's other Glasgow pieces to my carousel too. Wonder who I could buy one for ?

This week has been all about me being cosy in the house. Cushions, candles, throws and flowers
That sums up my week!
Busy day today though - but good fun busy. Funny how I am always pleased it's the weekend even though I am retired from Monday to Friday work. Old habits die hard!
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend with lots of cosy and comfy moments.

After 3 months of not driving and being quite incapacitated ( broken shoulder) and then a fortnight of lurgy ( chest infection) - yesterday I got out at last to my favourite florist .florists and treated myself to some gorgeous blooms.

Beautiful fresh flowers bought from my local florist for the first time in ages
Are these not absolutely amazing?

My favourite vase for fresh flowers is on my Singer sewing machine table - and here they are looking totally fabulous!

I do like a wee candle on this table too and here is a new one from . I love the scents in these candles and the bronze coloured tins - they seem to go in every room in my house - and the fact that they are made on the Island of Lismore and sold from a shop right here in the West End of Glasgow just adds to the attraction!

I consider myself very lucky that through my local shopping I not only have my own favourite florist and candle maker where they know exactly what I like but also that these business owners have become my friends .

And both Debbie from .florists and Hazel from are coming to the Mingle next week . I am always saying how wonderful this community is both locally in the West End and in the insta community too and I know I probably sound like a broken record but knowing and shopping with the folk in your local small shops is a marvellous thing.

So thank you Debbie and Hazel. Candles and flowers are high on my list for home accessorising and styling all through the year!
I have enjoyed my candle and flowers today and they look and smell amazing!!

So Anne Marie's thought for today - obviously- shop local, shop small, shop independent. You won't regret it.

Have a lovely evening everyone.
Celebrity Traitors for us tonight!
We are thoroughly enjoying it!

A room makeover throwback! To the year 2000!

Sometimes I see some Insta friends landing a feature in a shiny interiors magazine — all perfect lighting, tidy homes, and matching mugs.

I always think, I’d quite fancy that… (if only the whole house could be clean at once 😅).

Then I remembered — we’ve already been there!
Back in 2000, 3 houses ago - we were featured in The Home Show Magazine ( Scottish I think the forerunner of ) after winning a room makeover competition. And these are our glossy magazine photos

To enter, we sent in a photo and a short “why we deserve it in 25 words or under ” — and I, in a moment of madness, wrote a limerick.

Apparently that did the trick! We actually won!

Our Katie had just turned one, Mr LDH and I weren’t even married (scandal!), and although I look like I cut my own hair… I promise I didn’t 😂

The makeover itself was in the first months of the new millennium - and featured warm terracottas, raspberry tones, and custom-made blinds and cushions — £1,060 for those alone, according to the feature! Bloody expensive 25 years ago!

Thankfully, we didn’t pay a penny — the whole thing was our prize.

So there we are — a Home Show Magazine glossy family, 25 years ago. For my big moment I chose to wear funereal black and Mr LDH is dressed for an entirely different season than me - thankfully Katie at least looked cute and toned with the room!

My first and only competition win… but a pretty fabulous one at the time! So that was it- I peaked in the year 2000!

But if anyone from @ or homesandgardensofficial , or wants to chat to us now, honestly just get in touch. Enough time has passed, we are totally available and my hair is much better now!!!

Evening everyone

Not a lot going on here while I recover from this lurgy. I am totally fine but just loaded and knackered . So i am just being cosy , watching Diane Keaton films ( what a tremendous actor and amazing woman!) and planning the November . Which is really soon!

Loads of organising to do but thankfully it's the type of organising I can do from the sofa!

My wee Garden room is now its autumn season snd is still being regularly used by the Lockdown son with the chiminea on. It's so cosy when the fire is on outside. I do love these festoon lights.kindly gifted by and previously declared many times!

The garden room was meant to get painted this year but my broken arm put the kibosh on that! So good to know I have my to do list for next Spring started!

Hope you are all good and my advice- if you know anyone with this cold totally stay away from them- it's a total stinker!

Wildwood - the audio- is for Mr LDH - I gave him the bug .He has been really ill. 🤢
It's the least I could do! Xx

Pa I should have a pumpkin or something in this shot. But too knackered to get my ceramic pumpkins out of the shed! Next week I promise!

Good Morning Sunday!

Well you all loved my Etruscan Red ceiling in my bedroom. But that was not my first bold ceiling!
0h No my first bold ceiling was my Brinjal Ceiling in my new dressing room

And Farrow and Ball Brinjal is an absolutely bloody fantastic colour. I totally love it
( Though I should say that my farrow and ball colours are all colour matched by )

As you will see from this carousel- this was a walk in wardrobe with a window. Again it was painted that same neutral that was throughout our house. ( God I came to hate that wall colour) Being honest before I did this makeover- the cupboard was a bit of a dumping ground. But I cleared it all out for this fantastic transformation

I had the notion to turn this walk in wardrobe into a dressing room and along came with the amazing offer of this gifted wallpaper. It's called Thistle Navy and I absolutely adore it! It was an Ad/ Gifted product which has been declared many many times but is forever appreciated!

So to tell you the details of this carousel the photos are as follows

1. Brinjal ceiling looking absolutely amazing against the wallpaper

2. Brinjal ceiling - Thistle Navy wallpaper and the most gorgeously painted Railings door! ( All the woodwork is Railings for the colour)

3. More of the same - but how fabulous is this paper!!

4. The after of the window view - with the dressing table

5. The before of the window view

6. An after video!

7. A before video

Honestly I was delighted with this wardrobe/ cupboard transformation.
Mr LDH declared it a triumph! Which was a wee bit of a moment for me!

What wee rooms do you have that you could transform? What small room ceilings could you paint? No room is too wee for some magic!
And small rooms can be so inexpensive but can have big impact!

Let me know what you think and please follow or like or comment or repost.

Show the love anyway that suits you for my dressing room - wardrobe - cupboard transformation !

Would you go for Black Bedroom walls and an Etruscan Red ceiling? It's a bit bold isn't it?

Well We did.

These 4 photos show the evolution of our bedroom!

1. Now - Off black walls , doors , woodwork and Etruscan ceiling

2. Off Black walls but ceiling, doors and woodwork white

3 . Our furniture and the neutral walls that on an un sunny dull day looked like dismal dirty magnolia!

4 . The schedule photo! So stark!

Whatever you think of our eventual choices , these photos clearly show the difference paint makes. It's the most inexpensive way to transform a room but my goodness it certainly has made such a massive difference! It looks like a different room!

Even I am surprised at my Etruscan Red Ceiling choice. No idea where I got the courage for that.

In honour of these fabulous photos and this amazing transformation- I may even tidy this room tomorrow. In a spirit of full disclosure it is not at all tidy at the moment. I still have this stinking cold and Mr LDH now has it now. We are a very sorry pair! The main feature in here is hankie boxes!

Enjoy your Friday evening- and if you were thinking of going bold or dark with your paint. Hopefully this is inspiration for you!

Well Hello October!

For us - October started with a fabulous weekend in Belfast for our friend Lisa's birthday.

We flew into Belfast on Friday just before all the flights were caught up in the horrible winds and had a tremendous weekend. Eating , drinking and even a bit of singing and dancing!

Safely home now but with such a stinking cold. Honestly totally loaded with it !!

So what have I got for you today in this wee mini carousel.

1. Paco as ever making himself comfortable. For the next few days until I get shot of this cold I will be in the sofa opposite hoping to be a fraction as comfy as he is!

2 watch! Is that the start of it turning red?? The rest of the garden is a riot after Storm Amy - I am surprised there are any leaves left. Still hoping for gorgeous redness with a bit of autumn sunshine!

3. Here is me with 2 of my lovely pals who we were with in Belfast one being the birthday girl herself. I consider myself very lucky that Mr LDH's 2 best pals from down South are married 2 lovely ladies who I am close friends with in my own right. Was so lovely seeing them and we are planning another ladles trip next year - all suggestions welcome for city breaks for the 3 of us. We have done Madrid and Berlin before!

4. The Guinness is there just because I so enjoyed being in Ireland. My dad was Irish and my very best friend from school now lives outside Dublin. I had a real urge to spend more time in Ireland and go back to Donegal where my dad was from. Yet another trip to plan!

Thats all from me today. But much planning to do now - 3 weeks on Saturday! Eek!

September was such a good month ✨
We started it in Cape Cod, then Rhode Island, back to Boston, and finally home 🏖️🍂 Paco was happy, autumn arrived, and life felt pretty perfect.

Highlights included:
📚 The most gorgeous bookshop ever — in Boston.
🌅 A magical evening at for the launch of ’s Island Dusk.
🎂 making my little great-niece’s 4th birthday extra special.
🏡 My model house from — I’ve had it since June but moved it recently and I’m still blown away by the detail.

So grateful for a fabulous month ❤️ Especially to Mr. LDH for being the best company on our holiday.

Here’s to October — can’t believe how fast this year is flying by! 🍁

Well Hello Sunday!

My usual Sunday morning list-making got totally derailed today because I had to share this. I started taking shots of my living room this morning - always good to gather up some content on a quiet weekend morning! Ended up moving a few things about -as I do - and then decided this had to be posted.

Look at my amazing model of my mews house made by the fabulous Karen at . Swipe to the last pic to see my actual home — the detail is incredible, and it’s all made from teeny tiny pieces of cardboard.

I first got to know Karen through Instagram and then met her in person at the June . The homes & interiors community on here is just the best — so supportive and inspiring online, and even more fabulous when we get to meet up in person and actually chat.

Karen is not only so lovely but super talented — and she does take commissions if you fancy your own home in miniature. Even better, she’ll also have a stall at the November Mingle, so if you are coming you can see her incredible work in person!

I think this morning I’ve finally found the perfect spot for my little house — centre stage and beautifully lit, just as it deserves. ❤️

So here it is - for you all to see. I will get back to the list making soon!
