🍂 The nights are drawing in, and there's no better time to get acquainted with the night sky.

Join the Astronomical Society of Glasgow at Mugdock Country Park for an evening of stargazing!

If the skies are clear, we'll explore the stars, planets and galaxies through our telescopes, with a chance to get a closer look at Saturn.

Cloudy skies? No problem. Our friendly team of astronomers will still be there to guide you through the wonders of the night sky and share tips for getting started with your own eyes, binoculars and telescopes.

Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or have never looked through a telescope before, you're very welcome.

Wrap up warm, bring a hot drink, and spend an evening under the stars with us. ✨

📅 Friday 13 November, 7:30–9 PM

📍 Mugdock Country Park

👻 Is there anything more haunting than the infinite darkness of the universe? This spooky season, why not venture out into the night and contemplate the cosmos with us?

Join the Astronomical Society of Glasgow at Mugdock Country Park for an introduction to the night sky. If the skies are clear, we'll explore the stars, planets, galaxies and more through our telescopes. If the clouds roll in, our astronomers will still guide you through the wonders of the universe.

No experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to ponder your place in the cosmos.

Wrap up warm, bring a hot drink, and come stare into the abyss with us.

⭐ A little look back at the opening of Stars Over Mugdock ⭐

Earlier this month, we celebrated the opening of our new astrophotography exhibition with a private viewing at Mugdock Country Park.

It was lovely to bring together members, friends and guests to see the exhibition for the first time and celebrate the incredible images our members have captured from our own Eric Tomney Memorial Observatory.

These photos from the evening were taken by our member Eileen Gibson 📸

From the colourful Aurora Borealis and enormous solar prominences to distant nebulae, star-forming regions and the remnants of a supernova witnessed by our ancestors almost a thousand years ago, there is plenty to discover.

Now, Stars Over Mugdock is open to everyone!

And this Saturday, you can meet some of the astronomers behind the exhibition.

🌌 Meet the Astronomer
📅 Saturday 3 October
⏰ 2–4pm

Come along to the Campsie Gallery and chat with members of the Astronomical Society of Glasgow about the exhibition, astronomy, astrophotography, or anything else you're curious about. No experience needed, just come along and say hello!

The exhibition itself runs until 22 November and is open daily from 10am–4pm.

⭐ Free exhibition ⭐

Come and see some of the most beautiful objects in our night sky, exhibited in the cosy Campsie Gallery at Mugdock Country Park.

The Astronomical Society of Glasgow has its own observatory, the Eric Tomney Memorial Observatory (ETMO), right here in the park. Many of the images in this exhibition were captured by our members there during the long, frosty nights of recent winters.

From the bursts of colour of the Aurora Borealis to majestic prominences rising from the surface of our nearest star, the Sun, the exhibition showcases some of the extraordinary sights we can capture from our own observatory here in Scotland.

Venture further into deep space to see the remnants of a supernova witnessed by our ancestors almost a thousand years ago, and look for stars on the verge of forming in the stellar nurseries of emission nebulae.

We’ve been sharing the science and passion of astronomy with the public since 1894, and throughout the exhibition, members of the society will be present at selected events to chat about the images on display, how we took them, and what you’re looking at.

And if you like what you see, you can learn to explore the night sky or even try astrophotography yourself. Our society is open to everyone, with no previous experience needed.

📅 10 September – 22 November 2026
🕙 Daily, 10am–4pm
📍 Campsie Gallery, Mugdock Country Park Visitor Centre
🎟️ Free admission

Come and see what we’ve been capturing from Mugdock.

All welcome!

ASG Observatory Open Day

Join the Astronomical Society of Glasgow at the Eric Tomney Memorial Observatory at Mugdock Country Park on Saturday 12 September, from 12 noon to 5pm.

Come and explore the observatory, see our astronomical equipment up close and, weather permitting, observe the Sun safely through specialised solar equipment.

The Open Day also coincides with the newly opened Stars Over Mugdock astrophotography exhibition in the Campsie Gallery, celebrating the wonders of the night sky and the work of local astrophotographers.

📷 And there is more to come. Throughout the exhibition, we are planning special Meet the Astronomer sessions, giving visitors the opportunity to meet some of the photographers behind the images, hear about how they captured them and find out how you can get started photographing the night sky yourself.

More dates and details will be announced soon.
