Good morning, I hope you all had a great weekend. I’ve been working in my new studio! It took me the whole weekend to sort out some of the yarn and all the other materials into some kind of order, but I’m really pleased with how it turned out. I’ll show you more in the next few posts.

In between organising the yarn, I also added a couple of bags to the collection for the classes. I’ve just completed a lovely bag with a small border ,the white and black one ,that Lelia made during the classes. Considering she had never crocheted just a few weeks ago, I can safely say she did a wonderful job!

Sometimes small projects are the best for that instant gratification, allowing you to apply the stitches you’ve learned to something concrete that you can actually use, and that doesn’t take months to complete like a blanket.

All my four gorgeous babies are in Lisbon for the weekend… it all started with Valentina taking Olympia away for a few days, then the other two, Francesca and Giuseppe, decided to join them. I was invited too, but with my recent surgery it was wiser for me not to travel just yet. Still, seeing them all together, enjoying each other and making memories, makes me the happiest mother ever ❤️
Last weekend was Mother’s Day everywhere else but in the UK, and it really made me reflect on what an incredible journey these past 33 years of motherhood have been. Watching them grow into four amazing adults has honestly been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
And for me, it has never been about financial success or achievements on paper… it is about the kind of human beings they have become. Balanced, caring, empathetic, supportive adults who genuinely look after one another and me too. Seeing the love and kindness they have for each other makes me feel incredibly proud.
Through some difficult moments this past year, they have all encouraged me to pick up my hooks again and return to crocheting, reminding me of something I love and helping me find joy in it again. As a mother, you really cannot ask for much more than that.
Yes… maybe this is a slightly gushy post 😂 Maybe I am getting older and more sentimental hahaha… but today my heart is just very full ❤️love to you all and happy weekend!

Back after a few days recovering from my Trabeculoplasty on both eyes ✨
The past year has been a bit challenging with my eye problems, all starting with Thyroid Eye Disease. Some days are harder than others, but I believe all we can do is take things one day at a time and keep going.
Yesterday was the first day I managed a couple of hours crocheting again, making little samples for my students ,and I absolutely loved it !❤️
Helping people create what they want is one of my favourite parts of teaching, and it keeps every class interesting, creative, and so diverse.
Today’s projects include some head and ear warmers, a bag still waiting to be finished (dark colours are a bit too difficult for me at the moment!), and a sample for the new blanket chosen by Lyn: Magic Circles ✨
As Lyn did, I bought the pattern so I can make the sample myself too.

And while I’m here, just a little reminder… please support designers by buying their patterns rather than sharing them. A few pounds for a pattern helps independent designers continue creating the beautiful work we all enjoy ❤️

Much love,
Lucia

This morning I read ‘Knitting Bu****it’ the article is inspired by Harry Frankfurt’s idea from ‘On Bu****it ‘ which refers to content that isn’t exactly false, but lacks real substance.the article is brilliant and It really struck me, because every point applies to crochet too

We’re seeing more AI-generated images and patterns that look convincing but don’t actually work… and people get confused. They don’t always realise what they’re looking at hasn’t come from a real maker and that’s where the problem lies, especially for designers.
I personally don’t use AI (apart from a little help with grammar because, as you know, English is not my first language) ,maybe I’m too old for it, or maybe I just find learning a new technology a bit boring… sometimes I feel like one of the last dinosaurs roaming the land of creativity with a hook in hand… 🤣
But I don’t think that’s all AI is a bad thing.
I am sure ,for some ,AI can be useful but it can’t replace the human instinct to create. It remixes what already exists, but it doesn’t create something entirely new or it doesn’t have that “this just feels right” moment.

So please, don’t get duped.

Support real designers, indie dyers, and makers who put their heart into what they do.

My Eastern Jewels design didn’t come from an algorithm … just an eye, a hook, instinct and many failed attempts…

That’s something AI canimitate, but not replicate.. so there is always light at the end of the tunnel.. always use your critical skills!!!!

Beautiful day again, so I took my St Kilda out. I love this blanket so much .. it always makes me smile. It’s one of my favourite patterns I designed .. more so because it’s a collaboration with the very talented ,and fellow Scot, Abi
You can find the pattern in my bio or Ravelry if you’d like a little bit of Scotland in your home. The pattern also offer two different colourway.
Anyway… the weather… oh my goodness, it’s gorgeous! I think we’ve had more than a full week of sunshine, and I’ve enjoyed every single minute of it!!!Since moving to Scotland 34 years ago, I’ve become a bit of a weather buff… to the point that my children find it quite funny and tease me about it. I just love checking the weather! And if it’s sunny, it really makes my day.
When I lived in Italy, I never paid much attention to the weather, as sunny days were often the norm, but Scotland is a different story.
That said, if you want to visit this most amazing country I’m so lucky to call home, do come in April or May,they seem to be the best months weather-wise!
I hope you can too sit outside and enjoying the lovely and sunny weather love to you all xx

I don’t have any lovely crochet to show you today, as I’m working on several projects behind the scenes—but I do have a super cute little sheep who would like to say hello and wish you all a happy Friday!

The weather has been glorious, so Francesca and Dennis went up to Ben Lomond yesterday, and Dennis took this picture. They send it to me and I thought it was too cute not to share.

Scotland really is a beautiful place xx

Happy Monday!
I’ve finally finished this bag , you might have spotted it as a work in progress on my desk over the past few weeks. It’s part of a series of sample bags I’ve been crocheting for my classes.
The cotton is absolutely lovely, with a very subtle gold thread running through it. I really wish you could see it in real life because it catches the light beautifully 😊

Now… back to some half-finished projects!

Tell me I’m not the only one… do you also have multiple projects on the go at the same time? I never seem to have fewer than three …there’s always something new tempting me to start another one! 🤣

Good morning everyone ☀️

I’ve just posted this little video so I can say hello properly again .it’s been a while, but as you can see, I’m back! And I’m enjoying every single minute of it.
I didn’t realise quite how much I’d missed the community and seeing people. The past year and so has been a bit of a blur for a number of reasons, and as I mentioned before, my crochet slipped a little .. I have to admit I was feeling a bit low. But I suppose that happens to all of us from time to time.
Coming back to the classes has given me such a boost. I’ve met some really lovely new ladies, which has been just fabulous.

Also, there’s a wee mention in the video to Marion I’ve made two of her beautiful blankets, and they are such a perfect example for beginners of how creatively you can use the good old, trusted granny square.

Sending lots of love to you all have a lovely day 💛
