'Client Phone'

My client kindly took this photo of the finished floor as It was well dark by the time I had finished the final coat.
Finished with Loba Supra2k, the toughest.

Wow, that was quite a revival.

Other trades not being over-concerned about the wooden floor beneath their feet made this one a bigger job.
Cinderblock walls put up, then taken back down, plaster off, then back on. Old heating pipes removed and replaced, doors borded up and more plastering done. Then, to finish off, a layer of the most light depleting paint added to the walls. Nice.

The repairs I did first using new timber cut to a size that matched. Then, I hand dragged all of the set building materials from all of the joints to the floor before sucking the hell out of them with my vacuum cleaner. Nails knocked down, staples and tacks removed, vacuumed again.
Then sanded, vacuuming at every change of grit size ( sandpaper grit size) 40,60,80,100 and then 120g to finish off before a final decontamination with the vacuum. A primer coat was then applied. This was sanded with extra fine sandpaper, vacuumed, then two top coats added with drying time in-between.
Oh, and some colour added to the new boards visible from the landing to keep your eyes from going straight to the white wood.

And that's it, that's why I call myself a restorer.

Some floors take a little thought.

A house built in 1901 with an unusual flooring lay-up. 10mm oak on top of 10mm pine for support, totally original and fitted after the large fireplace and surround had be installed. This meant that there had been a gap ever since the original fireplace was removed.
Add to this a bay window added in the 80s, and it's time for me to scratch my head.

What I came up with was to fill the missing areas with reclaimed oak parquet blocks. This keeping the original floor without having to lift multiple boards and extending them.

I also made the threshold trim to match the originals still in the house.

Repaired, sanded, sealed, and some colours added.

This was carried out in a freshly decorated room awaiting a stove installation. I had to totally alter the hearth area and resize it for a new marble hearth.

Some repairs and a light sanding for this one.
My clients wanted the joy of finishing their own floors to an antique style. Hats off, respect where respect is due. This is how I started, many many years ago now.

I gave them some water-based colour I've mixed for staining new boards and a bag full of helpful advice. Nice.👍
