From crepe paper to beautiful hydrangeas! 💜

A little look at my recent Hydrangea Workshop!

Hydrangeas are one of the most intricate paper flowers I've taught, with lots of individual petals, shaping and assembling to bring each flower to life.

This was a full day workshop, giving everyone the chance to slow down, learn new techniques and create their very own handmade hydrangea to take home.

🌸 Something you might not know about me… I'm dyslexic!

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and this year's Dyslexia Awareness Week focused on dyslexia at work. So I thought I'd share a little about my own journey.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia at university, before going on to spend over 10 years as a primary school teacher, including 7 years as a phonics lead! 📚

For me, dyslexia means that things like spelling, reading and processing written information can take a little more time and effort.

When I was teaching, I loved making classroom displays, creating resources and finding different ways to bring learning to life. One of my space themed displays was even liked by Tim Peake on Twitter! 🚀

Now I've swapped the classroom for crepe paper flowers! 🌻

Running Paper & Petal involves so much more than making flowers. Admin, writing, planning and organising behind the scenes, and some of those things don't always come naturally to me.

No matter the challenges, I absolutely love it!

I don't often share much about myself on here, but I thought Dyslexia Awareness Month was a good opportunity to share a little more about the person behind the paper flowers. 💛

An autumnal hen party at Lark! 🍂

An afternoon filled with drinks, snacks, Disney music and lots of laughter… and of course, plenty of paper flowers! 💐

The lovely bride-to-be and her hens created their own giant paper flowers in beautiful autumnal shades, ready to be displayed at the wedding! 🧡

I absolutely love the idea of making something together at your hen party that then becomes part of your special day. A lovely memory and something completely unique!

Thank you for letting me be part of your celebrations! 🥰

I recently realised that over the last year I’ve also taught more than 100 people how to make their own crepe paper flowers! 🥹

Which got me thinking… where are all those flowers now?!

At the end of a workshop everyone heads home with their finished flower and most of the time I never get to see it again. Have you displayed yours? Made more since? Maybe you’ve got a little collection now!

And it’s not just workshop flowers. If you’ve bought a flower, bouquet or giant flower from me, or made one of my kits, I want to see those too! 🌼

I’m giving one Paper & Petal customer £35 to spend on a workshop, flowers or a kit. If you’re not local to South Wales, you can choose something I can post to you. 💌

Here’s what’s coming up at Y Cwtch, Bridgend between now and the end of the year:

✨ Giant Poinsettia - 4th December - Intermediate

There’s something for complete beginners as well as those wanting to develop their paper flower skills a little further.

Intermediate workshops are for anyone who has attended at least one Paper & Petal workshop before - so if you've already made flowers with me, these are your chance to try something a little more detailed and challenging!

And if wreath making isn't really your thing, the festive workshops are a lovely alternative - make something different for Christmas that you can bring out again year after year. 🎄

All materials are provided, so just come along, get creative and take home something you've made yourself.
