What an incredible evening! ✨
Our Creating Exceptional Homes event at the beautiful Kallums Bathrooms showroom in Guildford was such a success!
It was wonderful to bring together so many homeowners, property professionals and industry experts for an evening of inspiration, conversation and shared ideas.
A huge thank you to our fantastic panel of experts — Adam from , Jonathan and Mark from , and Jen from . Their knowledge, experience and different perspectives made for a fascinating discussion about what really goes into creating an exceptional home.
From architecture and construction to interior design and property potential, it was brilliant to explore how bringing the right experts together from the very beginning can make such a difference.
A special thank you to the team at Kallums Bathrooms for hosting us in their stunning showroom and helping to create such a memorable evening.

A yoga room with a view like this
This render was created as part of Stage 2: Layouts & Conceptual Design for a very exciting current project.
Positioned right at the top of the house, we wanted to make the most of the incredible outlook and create a space that feels calm, restorative and completely removed from the rest of the home.
A dedicated yoga room, with natural materials, warm timber, concealed storage and plenty of space to practise — all orientated towards that view.
This is the stage where we start exploring not just how a space looks, but how it could feel and be used.

🚩 A red flag when choosing a contractor…
It’s not just about price or whether they can build it. It’s about how they communicate and whether they can work as part of a team.
I always welcome ideas and expertise on site — but there’s a big difference between collaboration and someone insisting their way is the only way.

What actually happens after you’ve approved the design?
This is Step Four of the Sadie Pizzey Interiors process: Design Details & Specification of Work.
By this point, we know what your home is going to look and feel like. The layouts and design direction have been agreed.
Now we work out exactly how it is all going to come together.
This is where we move from the big-picture design into the detail — and there is a lot of detail.
We develop our comprehensive Specification of Work (SOW), covering everything from flooring layouts, wall and ceiling finishes and internal doors to heating, plumbing, bathrooms, kitchens, lighting, electrics, fireplaces and all those smaller decisions that can otherwise get made on site.
We’re considering questions such as:
Where exactly should that socket go?
Which way should the flooring run?
Where does one finish stop and another begin?
What height should the wall lights be?
Which radiator goes where?
What happens around the doorway?
What does the builder actually need to allow for?
Individually, they can seem like small decisions. Collectively, they are what make a beautifully designed home work.
And crucially, we want to make those decisions before construction, rather than leaving a client standing on site being asked to make them while the build is underway.
Our SOW brings all of that information together into one detailed package that can be issued to the project team, helping contractors to price more accurately, reducing assumptions and giving everyone a much clearer understanding of the intended finished result.
Because a concept tells you what a home should look like.
Step Four starts defining how we’re actually going to deliver it.

Which bar would you choose — 1, 2, 3 or 4? 🍸
We love designing home bars.
They’re one of those spaces where you can afford to be a little braver, push the boundaries and, quite frankly, let your hair down with the design.
These four bars couldn’t be more different:
1 — Bespoke cabinetry, w**e storage and a beautifully practical drinks station.
2 — A completely hidden bar, with a rather fabulous gold-leaf interior waiting behind closed doors.
3 — Dark, dramatic and sophisticated, with rich finishes, fluted glass and beautiful detailing.
4 — A render for one of our current projects in development — a statement bar designed around a backlit feature arch, layered lighting and dedicated w**e storage.
For us, a home bar should feel like a little moment of theatre. It doesn’t necessarily have to match everything around it. It can be unexpected, playful, glamorous or dramatic — while still being carefully considered around how it will actually be used.
And that’s why they’re so much fun to design.

Which would you choose — Design 1 or Design 2?
Usually, by the time we reach the design stage, we have a strong sense of how a room should look.
That’s because Step One of our design process is the Drill Down — a detailed conversation where we really get under the skin of how our clients live, what they love, what they need from their home and how they want it to feel.
But occasionally, two ideas emerge… and both are simply too good to let go.
That’s exactly what happened with this family bathroom.
The brief was to create a bathroom that works brilliantly for both kids and grown-ups — practical enough for busy family life, but with enough personality and considered detail to feel really special.
So this time, instead of choosing one direction before presenting, the client got both.
Two very different takes on the same room.
Same brief. Same family. Two completely different personalities.

Did you know we also design commercial spaces? ✨
I was back visiting this three-floor office project that we designed a little while ago, and it reminded me how important good design is in the workplace.
There’s always something slightly strange about walking back into a project once it’s been finished and lived in for a while — you see it with fresh eyes again.
And it’s such a great feeling when you walk through the door and the design still has that impact.
For this project, we wanted to create offices that felt professional and practical, but also warm, characterful and somewhere people actually enjoy spending their working day. From the layouts and lighting to materials and those all-important finishing details, every element was considered as part of the overall experience.
Because commercial interiors don’t have to feel corporate.

Flooring choices can be one of the most overwhelming parts of a renovation.
There are so many options to consider — timber, stone, porcelain, patterned tiles, rugs — and it’s not simply about choosing what you like. Each material needs to work with the way the space will be used, the practical requirements of the room and, importantly, everything around it.
That’s why we explore flooring as part of Stage Two of our design process: Layouts & Concepts.
We look at the house as a whole, considering where materials should change, how one flooring choice transitions into another and how the different colours, tones, textures and patterns complement each other.
We’re also thinking about the practicalities. Which areas need something particularly hard-wearing? Where do we want warmth underfoot? How will it work with underfloor heating? Where could a change in material help define a space? And how do we make those transitions feel intentional rather than piecemeal?
Presenting the flooring together like this allows our clients to see how the choices will flow throughout their home before we move further into the detailed design.
It takes what can feel like hundreds of individual decisions and turns them into one considered, cohesive scheme.
And that’s exactly what the design process should do — make a renovation feel less overwhelming, not more.
