A handmade box incorporating a couple of mushrooms (not death cap), and inside a little paper mache reclining fox, surrounded by small nature-related tokens: hand painted and decoupaged buttons, pebbles, and even nectarine stones. I think I’ve discovered my favourite ‘hinge’ … back to back masking tape, which is simple and robust for this kind of project

A treasure chest of small things: tiny paper mache fox, a cloth hare, button runes, a handmade book, and flower; underneath, wrapped in tea-dyed muslin, a paper mache Teddy in cotton clothes.

Posting something trivial seems so lame, given how heartbroken I feel about what is happening in this country, but if this little fox and cabinet give you even the tiniest smile or distraction, I’m happy with that.

I started this project at least two years ago - got as far as the platform, boat, and cat (which I used for another project along the way!), and lost interest. Then, a return customer asked if I would make an Owl and the Pussy-cat piece for her sister … huzzah! I revisited the platform, reduced the height, added the ‘hill’, then the animals, including dangling fish, and all the other accoutrements: jar of honey, £5 notes (featuring our beloved Queen Elizabeth), and runcible spoon). It’s taken a further three months to complete, and will be posted today.

I’m slowly tackling the backlog of half-completed projects … there are many.
