From a young age, I had a very keen interest in food and the creative art of cooking it. When I almost 19, I left my Northern Ireland home to follow my passion for food, starting as a counter girl in the French delicatessen Villandry. From this, I earned enough money to complete the 3 month Intermediate Course at Leiths School of Food and Wine. After graduating, I combined my culinary skills with

travelling and became a private cook. Following on from that, I took a teaching position at Leith’s for 3 years. In 1997, I left to start my own catering company, Flavour Passion, specializing in drinks parties, dinners and lunches. Starting a family added another dimension to cooking for me. I continued to grow my passion for all food flavours, creating my own recipes, with an emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients, designed around busy home lives. Today, I continue my love for cooking and food flavours by writing and testing recipes as often as I can.

Just some of the recipes I have made with my Cuisine System 5200 XL Auto. I could not be without it in my kitchen! I make scone bases, pastry, shortbread, frangipane, grate vegetables, make cakes, nut butters, chop herbs, squeeze citrus fruits….

A few fun facts…
• It travelled all around the whole of Ireland with me when I was working on both of my books, ‘The Irish Bakery’ and ‘The Irish Kitchen’ 💚🩵
• Sometimes I make cake batters in it so I take the removable funnel out to get as much air in as possible
• I never put the blade in the dishwasher, I always wash it by hand so it stays sharp
• It chops, grates, slices and emulsifies
• it can run for a long time without overheating so is great for things like homemade nut butters
• I grate lots of cheese at a time and freeze it

Such a brilliant machine! It cuts down my time in the kitchen no end! Happy Sunday🤗

Last weekend we had the most lovely time with Anna at .bakery celebrating The Irish Kitchen & The Irish Bakery. 🍀 Together we baked a whole table of Irish favourites, Barmbrack, Guinness Cake, Guinness Wheaten Bread, Apple Tarts, Fifteens, Fruit Squares, Flakemeal Biscuits, and of course Irish Buttermilk Scones, along with plenty of other traditional treats.
Andrew and I met so many lovely people and signed lots of books. We chatted with visitors from all over the world, Nashville, Ireland, Iran, Italy, France… it was such a joy to see everyone come together over baking.
Anna, you have built such a warm and welcoming community at Quince Bakery. The coffee and were flowing, the Irish playlist was on, and it felt like the perfect way to begin the early celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day. ☘️
A big thank you to Anna and Jean for bringing it all together, and to Ula .soltys.photography for capturing the day so beautifully.

The Irish Kitchen supperclub at Fortnums, London was a huge success. Such an iconic store and the Food Studio on the 3rd floor is fabulous. They host lots of book launches and supperclubs! Andrew and I were just delighted to be there and the response from the guests was wonderful. The chefs, Raff, Andrea and Jack were fantastic and did my recipes proud and it was SO lovely of Chef Sam White who runs all of the kitchens in Fortnums, to come and say Hello!

2025 was truly the year of The Irish Kitchen. Andrew and I want to thank every single one of you for supporting us and showing the book such incredible love. From the first idea to the final page, this project was a celebration of place, people, and authenticity. We thought you’d enjoy a look behind the scenes and what went on, what we did, and the talented people we worked with to bring ‘The Irish Kitchen’ to life. Please share this post with anyone you’ve bought the book for, or anyone you think would enjoy it. It spans Ireland, North and South and you’ll see where many of your favourite photos of our book came from. Happy New Year to you all. Wishing you health to enjoy 🩵

From my new book ‘The Irish Kitchen’. When I was growing up, we only had puddings at home on a Sunday! At school though, we had puddings every day. Our dinner ladies were brilliant cooks and everything was made from scratch. Ever since then, I have loved lemon meringue pie but to really enjoy it, it has to have certain characteristics…Sweet, buttery pastry, filled with bright, citrusy, zingy filling and topped with soft, cloud-like meringue with the thinnest crisp outer layer! Comforting, and so delicious, this is the sort of pudding that makes you stop, savour and enjoy every bite. Cover photo is taken from by the others were my recipe testing photos. Happy Sunday x

From our new cook book ‘The Irish Kitchen’…
A Traditional Irish Batch Loaf just out of the oven is a wonderful thing. The dark, smooth crust crackles and cracks as it cools and a delicious warm and homely smell fills the kitchen. When you pull the loaves apart, they come away with ease, soft at the edges and light and fluffy inside. There’s nothing fancy about it, just real bread, the way it’s meant to be simple, not too many ingredients and made the way it was years ago!

“Ever since this book arrived”, I wrote in CookbookCorner about The Irish Bakery in October ‘23, “I’ve been clutching it to me for comfort.” Frankly, I could and should use the self-same words about Cherie Denham and Andrew Montgomery’s follow-up, The Irish Kitchen. Both books calm the soul with their exquisite, atmospheric photographs, warm words and simple, on-point recipes.

This new book has plenty of baking recipes, too, but expands its repertoire to take in jams and marmalades, hearty breakfasts, meals for everyday as well as celebratory feasts. It’s a love letter to Ireland, respectful of tradition but not hidebound by it. There’s Pea and Ham Hock Soup; Honey, Mustard and Thyme Roasted Chicken Thighs; Dublin Coddle with Black Bacon; Boiled Bacon with Buttered Cabbage, Mashed Potatoes and Parsley Sauce; Shin of Beef in Guinness with Nettle and Herb Dumplings; Guinness Scones; Fennel, Thyme and Caramelised Onion Sausage Rolls for you to earmark for Christmas; as well as Shredded Brussels Sprouts, Savoy Cabbage and Chestnuts; and a Boxing Day Pie, bulging with leftover turkey, ham, stuffing and pigs in blankets in an Irish cheese sauce. For the sweet-toothed among you, I must mention Malteser Crunch; Blackberry, Pear and Whiskey Cake with Whiskey and Vanilla Cream; Potato Apple Bread; and Irish Whiskey and Cream Chocolate Truffle. Frankly, there’s not a recipe in here I don’t long to scuttle off into the kitchen to make. And I leave you now with a glad heart and the recipe I just had to share with you today from this absolute beauty of a book, namely the Boxty with Cabbage and Bacon. Everything about this makes me smile, especially the last sentence of the introduction to it!

There’s nothing quite like holding your own book for the very first time — the weight of it, the pages, the paper quality, the ribbons, the memories and the stories behind each shot. After two years of travelling across Ireland, North and South, meeting and being welcomed by incredible artisans and warm hearted people, Andrew and I cannot believe it’s finally here!!! From dark early starts, chasing sunrises for the perfect shot, to long days on the road, every single moment has led to this…and every single second has been so worth it. This book is a dedication to a community and the quiet beauty of the people and places of Ireland. We owe so much to those talented and generous people who helped bring it together.Thank you so very much to our ever patient and brilliant editor; to Anthony Hodgson whose design, along with Andrew’s gave the book its soul; to Aggie McKenzie, for her care in proofreading; and to who gave voice to the stories gathered along the way. Also a truly heartfelt thank you to the wonderful for writing such a thoughtful and generous foreword for Andrew and me. Your words set the perfect tone and bring so much warmth and depth to the pages, we are so very grateful to you. 🩵 **Just to say, this is an advance copy!! You can pre-order via the link in and my bio. Publication date is October 29th!! ** 🩵 Please do tag & share!..
