~ Cottage Garden Border ~

Just a few of the plants growing in my border, it doesn't look like theres many but when you write a list of things you've grown or bought it soon adds up.

Repeating plants throughout to give rhythm, flow & movement. Planting in groups of 3 or 5 so the border is not looked as cluttered but draws the eye along.

I love growing from seed, 1 little seed produces 1 plant its amazing! Its not long before i'll be starting my Biennials (grown now - roots & leaves establish ready to flower next Spring).

Some are self seeders so once they've finished flowering left to dry & gone to seed they will spread & re appear in your borders.

Shrubs & trees add structure & all round interest, these help fill the gaps.

I've still got a few things to plant out, a few little gaps. Maybe another border is needed.. Watch this space!

Will you give seed sowing a go?! Let me know ♡

~ Foxgloves ~

Stunning tall spires with downward facing flowers, loved by the bees.

In shades purple pink white & apricot these biennials ~ (grown in their first year roots establish & leaves form then producing tall spikes of flowers the flowing year).

They will dry & If left in the ground they will self seed.

⚠️ Safety ~ All part of the plant is highly toxic if ingested by humans, cats dogs, livestock. The sap can be an irritant wear gloves when handling.

Foxgloves are often found in woodlands just be mindful when around these.

~ Bank Holiday Weekend ~

Hope you are well & enjoying the long weekend 🌸

I didn't get much time in the week to garden but the last couple of days I've managed to get outside in the sunshine! ☀️🐞🦋🐦

The hot weather has meant getting things out the greenhouse, keeping things watered & planting on. A mix of adding to the gaps in the borders or finding a pot or two to add to the container garden.

There is still so much I want to do but for now its all about the flowers! 🌸🌹

Next job.. greenhouse coming down!

Happy Sunday! Enjoy the sunshine! ☀️

~ Planting Out ~

Malva ~ can be grown as an annual, biennial or perennial. A bushy plant with attractive leaves & large soft pink flowers.

Instead of potting on once big enough I decided to try out a seed snail. Inspired by . Laying the seedlings spaced apart rolled & tied with string. Plenty of space for each plant to grow.

Result ~ Roots are strong & long.

Planted these ones in the border. Or perfect in a pot.

Chapter 5 of 12

Home grown Ranunculus, first time growing, isn't she pretty! Just look at all those delicate layers. Lots of hidden buds. These took a little while to get going but will definitely be growing these again next year.

~ End of April ~

Where has the month gone?!

A greenhouse check in.. loving these warm sunny days!

A lunch time bottom water & out the greenhouse they come!

Trying out seed snailing, I think this is my new favourite. It's so quick & easy & uses up less space.

A cuppa in the sunshine!

Spotted the first bud on my Ranunculus, will it be open tomorrow?

Tomorrow is the 1st May!

Loving Spring so far!

What are you growing?

~ Sowing seeds ~

You can start sowing seeds in anything, you dont need fancy containers, use what you have..

Pic 1 Toilet roll tubes - mix of seeds here
Pic 2 Mascarpone pot - Corncockle
Pic 3 Yogurt pot - Strawflowers
Pic 4 Cream cheese pot - Verbena Bonariensis
Pic 5 Blueberry punnet covered in clingfilm - Courgettes
Pic 6 Cougettes - 6 plants
Pic 7 Take away container - Nigella
Pic 8 Seed tray - Forgot what's growing here! 😆
Pic 9 Healthy Roots ☺️

Sow seeds to packet instructions, water, cover with clingfilm, place on a sunny windowsil, wait for germination. Transfer to greenhouse outdoors watch & grow! In hot weather keep an eye on drying out, keep ontop of watering. Pot on when large enough to handle.

I still get excited when those little seeds pop up & some are so quick too! Love to seed sow!
