Three cheeky rockin' robins! ❤️
Did I spend far longer than I should have, as a 50 year old woman, creating this video?! Yep. 😬 😆

Hope it brings a bit of cheer...I'll try not to mention the C word too often...except in relation to the upcoming festive craft fairs I'll be at. 🌟🎄
Time to put these cheeky characters to work by printing them onto cards, bookmarks and decorations ready for the fairs. I haven't given them names yet... 🤔

Not long until my next fair, beginning a run of festive markets! First up I'll be taking my lino prints, cards, bookmarks, decorations and watercolours to the lovely Christmas Artisan Market held annually at Summerbridge Methodist Church in Nidderdale. Saturday 7th November 11am to 3pm. Free entry.

Sara, who organises the market with her team says:
"We will have food available this year again. Hot drinks, soup, bread and cakes and sweets. Cost is by donation that will also support Link to Hope!
We will have a room where visitors can help in the packing of our Christmas Shoeboxes that Link to Hope sends to families and elderly people living in poverty in the Ukraine and across Eastern Europe. No cost to participate, just lend a helping hand and see what it's all about."

I took lots of photos in the Lakes and was excited to have a go at painting some of the landscapes in watercolour. It's proving hard though, so I'm trying to develop my skills, especially when it comes to tonal values. This was an exercise in a lovely little book I found in a charity shop. Using only one colour to make you think about light, shade and distance. The difference it makes adding the shadows and the leading lines across the field is huge!

Next up, a similar tutorial but in three colours... 🎨 🖌

In the meantime, still sniffling and blowing my way through this cold! 🤧

Back from a lovely week in the Lakes and staying cosy whilst the storm rages outside. Lots of inspiration for painting but feeling low on energy, having caught a cold 🤧 but I had a go at a watercolour tutorial by Ian Scott Massie Did a little version to warm up, then a larger version on my posh 100% cotton paper. Ian has various online courses on the Happy House Masham website. I love his ethereal painting style and command of watercolours.
Last 2 pics of beautiful Ruby and Toffee relaxing with Chris. 🐾🐾🥰

An autumn trees experiment. 🍁🍃🍂
I've got an inspiring book by Alison C. Board 'Painting Landscapes - a creative approach in watercolour and mixed media' (Last 2 photos). So many exciting techniques to try. One of them is to bring a woodland to life by painting the dark areas between the trees, branches and foliage last, after you've painted the leaves. Known as negative painting. I love how this magically reveals the trees. Very satisfying.
Process video on the net post...
I realised too late that my trees are very regimented, with even gaps between each. 🙄 Next time I'll go for different heights, widths and gaps.

My painting from the previous reel.
Thanks to Lois Davidson for a lovely tutorial in her book Landscapes in Watercolour.
It was easy to follow and I loved the way the stages built to create a beautiful, serene landscape.
I used Winsor and Newton Professional watercolours and 300gsm cold pressed paper..
See my last post for a process video.

A process video of a summer landscape tutorial I completed from a gorgeous book by Lois Davidson called Landscapes in Watercolour.
I haven't painted many landscapes, I shy away from them as they are daunting! Having a tutorial to work through is do helpful for learning about the process and developing my skills. Really enjoyed this and going to try some more...maybe with an autumn flavour.
I used Winsor and Newton Professional watercolours and 300gsm cold pressed paper..
I'll post the book and a few photos separately.

Watercolour painting practice - irises.
Mary Woodin's delightful book 'The Painted Garden, a Year in Words and Watercolours' is full of gorgeous paintings. I had a go at painting these beautiful bearded iris flowers from the book. Her style is so delicate and loose, very inspiring.
