Eight years ago today, I opened the door to 58 High Street for the very first time.

A lot has happened since then: Brexit, Covid, a cost-of-living crisis and, in the middle of it all, a divorce too! It hasn’t been easy, but I’m still here, still doing it!

But this year I’ve decided I want to make some changes at Reste. For someone who is risk averse, that decision has not come easily, after all, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. I really can’t say what those changes are going to be just yet, but it’s exciting, if a little bit scary.

I know I wouldn’t have made it this far without you. Every purchase, visit, recommendation and kind word has helped keep this small independent going, and I’m so grateful.

I hope you’ll stay with me, as Reste continues to grow and evolve. Here’s to the next eight years and beyond 🙏🏻

I know how much you love a good bar soap and I think I’ve found the best! Handmade in Scotland using the cold press method. Perfume free, plastic free, paraben and SLS free, 100% vegan and they smell AMAZING! In store and online 🙏🏻

Finally! I’ve been waiting for what seems like ages for a delivery of plant pots from a new supplier in Norway. I have a bit of a thing about pots, as you can probably tell as soon as you walk into the shop! I think it’s important to have pots that are as lovely as the plants, rather than just something functional, so I’m always searching for something just that bit different and these have the most beautiful glazes, textures and shapes. Well worth the wait.

I love that our cards are sourced directly from the illustrator, each one is a little piece of art. And when you buy one, you’re helping a creative person keep doing what they do — which feels like a pretty nice reason to send a card 🤍

I always feel like I’m wishing my life away working in retail. While everyone else is enjoying the heatwave, I’m receiving emails from suppliers encouraging me to consider what I’ll be stocking for Christmas. I can only slowly drift from one season to the next, holding on to the one before for as long as I can.
With this in mind I have a new window. Dried glasses nod to the end of a glorious summer and fit beautifully with MAKERMARK Furniture’s ash and cord bench.
Autumn? Not yet thank you 🙏🏻

I love the mix of handmade and vintage in the shop. Pieces with a story, things made by hand, and finds that have already lived a life. All brought together in one place, and I hope you enjoy discovering them as much as I do.

Just had a huge delivery of our popular Mid Century style ceramics. Mugs and bowls with colourful glazes and textures, all reminiscent of the bright playful pottery of the 1970s. All available online.
