Drawn from the archive by curator Polly Putnam, this silk Mantua dress reveals the best of the intricate detail and craftsmanship of 18th century textile design. Created in Spitalfields, a historic centre of silk weaving in London, the dress’s embroidered motifs have been carefully reinterpreted within the Royal Embroidery bedding, translating elements of historic dress into a contemporary setting.
