MISSION: Improve the battlefield.

OBJECTIVE: Replace the bare table, faded bedsheet or suspiciously floral tablecloth currently serving as terrain.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT: A Big Wargames battlemat from Moonhopper Games.

These popular cloth mats combine detailed battlefield artwork with the durability needed for regular gaming. They lie flat, roll away easily and can handle repeated deployments of miniatures, scenery, dice and players leaning over the table while insisting they can definitely see that target.

Suitable for multiple miniature scales and available in a range of sizes and environments, they are equally at home beneath massed historical formations, science-fiction armies, fantasy warbands or compact skirmish forces.

Reliable, reusable and considerably easier than painting an entire gaming table yourself.

The Moonhopper Games Bulletin: Because those new releases in the shop windows clearly aren't distracting enough.

Missed a few editions of the Moonhopper Games Bulletin? Fear not. We've kept the lot online, rather than burying them in a cardboard box alongside the 400 unpainted Napoleonic infantry you bought during lockdown.

Our free back-issue archive is positively overflowing with miniature wargaming news, new releases, modelling tips, historical battles, gloriously improbable alternative histories, tabletop campaign ideas, events and the occasional piece of nonsense masquerading as informed journalism.

From Napolean handing his neighbours their a***s on a plate to interplanetary warfare on Mars, we've covered quite a bit of ground. Usually with artillery.

Read the back issues and subscribe for fresh monthly doses of wargaming-related lunacy, exclusive offers and competitions.

Share with your gaming club, tribe, mates and that one bloke who insists his 15th-century cavalry can charge uphill through a swamp. There's always one.

It's informative. It's entertaining. Most importantly of all, It's FREE.

Frankly, we're beginning to suspect we're undercharging.

The Moonhopper Games Bulletin...proving that reading about miniature wargaming is almost as much fun as actually finishing an army.

While it's quiet, and the majority of our fantastic customers are working for a living, we're giving our website a spot of maintenance so we can update our systems and APIs with our lovely trading partners.

For those unfamiliar with APIs, they're the clever little bits of digital wizardry that allow different computer systems to talk to one another. Unfortunately, one of ours appear to have developed the communication skills of two rival Napoleonic generals trying to negotiate a ceasefire through a particularly stupid pigeon.

So, we're giving the machinery a good kicking, tightening a few digital nuts and bolts, and generally making sure everything works together without requiring an exorcism or a small tactical nuclear strike.

The good news? We expect everything to be shipshape and Bristol fashion by this weekend (Saturday 17th / Sunday 18th October).

In the meantime, you might experience the occasional website hiccup, disappearing product or unexpected bout of electronic flatulence.

We're genuinely sorry for any inconvenience, and hugely grateful for your patience and continued support. We're making these improvements to give you a better, smoother shopping experience, with more lovely hobby goodies available from our partners.

We're not going anywhere. Although the IT department has briefly considered a new career in pet food tasting.

Thanks for sticking with us, we'll be tip-top again shortly.

A small public service announcement. Our Raging Heroes figures are getting dangerously thin on the ground.

The remaining stock includes some gloriously over-the-top characters, warriors and commanders that have absolutely no interest in standing quietly at the back of the battlefield looking sensible.

But once these are gone, they’re gone.

So if you’ve been eyeing one up for a new army, conversion project, warband or that completely unnecessary character model you’ve already invented a backstory for, this would be the moment.

Stocks are now limited, and we don’t expect them to hang around for long.

In other words...you can think about it.

Just perhaps not for three weeks.

Find the remaining Raging Heroes collection at Moonhopper Games before somebody else has exactly the same excellent idea: https://moonhopper-games.com/collections/raging-heroes

Unofficial statement: Please ignore the glowing footprints.

Area 51 from Moonhopper Games is a mixed terrain pot designed for alien deserts, classified military compounds and suspicious crash sites buried deep beneath the sands. Perfect for sci-fi battlefields, secret research facilities and conspiracy-fuelled tabletop campaigns where somebody absolutely opened the wrong containment chamber.

Packed with varied scenic textures, this terrain mix creates realistic dusty wastelands and extraterrestrial environments in minutes. Ideal for UFO landing zones, abandoned outposts and grim military installations where every corridor contains at least one blinking red warning light.

Whether you’re building cinematic skirmish boards or atmospheric miniature bases, Area 51 delivers fast coverage, rich detail and enough mystery to make your opponents nervously ask, “What exactly is hiding under that terrain piece?”

Weedy Scrub is back in stock!

Your tabletops called. They said the countryside was looking a little too well-maintained...

Good news, terrain builders, miniature painters and lovers of gloriously neglected landscapes...Moonhopper Games’ Weedy Scrub is here again!

Perfect for adding dying weeds, dead foliage and that wonderfully abandoned look to your miniature bases and scenery.

Because nothing says “This battlefield has seen some s***”, quite like a bit of scruffy vegetation.

And here's a little behind-the-scenes truth: we make our grass tufts by hand, in batches. Not because we enjoy making life complicated (well, not entirely!), but because quality matters. Working in batches helps us keep a close eye on consistency and ensure the tufts have the proper adhesion you need when bringing your miniature worlds to life. Each sheet is also handed with the grasses generated off-centre, so that handling is that much easier.

Once we have mixed our special blend of fibres to ensure the colour mix is just right, we then prepare the sheets and zap the hell out of them with electricity to make sure each strand knows where it's supposed to be pointing. Then, we let nature take its course and let the adhesive cure for 21 days before packaging it up and bunging it on the shelf ready for you to buy.

Small details. Handmade care. Better battlefields.

Ready to let things grow wild? Then grab your Weedy Scrub here: https://moonhopper-games.com/products/grasses-weedy-scrub

Your miniatures deserve better scenery. Your battlefields deserve a little neglect.

Yep...your wizard has made yet another terrible decision.

There’s treasure beneath the ice.

There’s ancient magic buried in the ruins.

There are also cultists, demons, wandering monsters and several extremely good reasons why sensible people don’t go wandering around Felstad after dark.

Naturally, you’re going in anyway.

Our latest Moonhopper Games mailshot takes a wander through our Frostgrave range. Wizards, Soldiers, Knights, Barbarians, Gnolls, Cultists and Demons, all ready to be recruited, converted, painted and subsequently removed from the table because somebody rolled appallingly on turn two.

Have a read here: https://mailchi.mp/moonhopper-games/frostgrave-sept26

And while you’re there, join the Moonhopper Games mailing list.

Subscribers get our regular mailshots plus the monthly Moonhopper Bulletin, packed with miniature wargaming news, campaign ideas, new releases, hobby nonsense and occasional evidence that we probably spend too much time thinking about toy soldiers.

Already subscribed?

Excellent. Your indoctrination is progressing nicely.

Because your existing pile of unpainted miniatures is clearly far too manageable.

And if you know somebody who has recently uttered the dangerous words, “I quite fancy starting a small skirmish game,” send this to them.

We can fix that.
