Seaforth Designs

Seaforth Designs Textile Artist Emma Iles founded Seaforth designs & opened their Solva shop 'Seaforth Home' in 2023

Living in a fishing village in Pembrokeshire, I take inspiration from the natural world around me, from the colours of the heathers and wading birds in the harbour and use fabrics in my work to reflect this. Having sewn professionally for many years I also draw from experiences in the past, having worked in a variety of stimulating environments including curtain restoration for the William Morris

Society, seamstress work for an Italian bespoke tailor, high street shops and wedding dresses. In Spring 2014 I was lucky enough to be chosen from hundreds to showcase her cushion designs at the Country Living Spring Fair, London. This was a fabulous experience and led to the Mr Fox design featuring in the September issue of the Magazine and several times on the BBC Spring/Autumn/Winter watch sofas! I sell through my online shop www.seaforthdesigns.com on but please feel free to contact me directly if you wish to purchase.

Nearly the middle of June already! Photo dump and amazing video of a song thrush singing in the shrubbery. I didn’t mange to see it but it was so loud echoing out across the harbour!

National Oystercatcher day - so lucky to see these little chaps in the harbour as we walk to the shop. You can usually hear their bickering and calling as they flit about the estuary deciding on the best feeding spots. It’s a crucial time for nesting birds so we try not to disturb as we go by.

Where it all started! My mums sewing machine taking pride of place on the wall of cushions! It’s the machine she got for her 15th birthday, nearly 60 years ago today and it’s the machine I learnt to sew on. Sadly I burnt the motor out on it several years ago, sorry mum! Happy birthday to my mum for kick starting my love of sewing so so many years ago 👌🏻

We love a bit of BBC Springwatch in the SEAFORTH household. Since my boys were little we’d always sit down to watch it. This week has featured foxes and mice - what more could you want?? My cushion designs use British tweeds and wool woven in Wales and are all handmade here in Pembrokeshire🤍

This is possibly my favourite stretch on the Pembrokeshire coast path and it’s right on our doorstep. The Sea thrift just lines the path here along with ‘Eggs and Bacon’ ( trefoil ) and sea campion. It’s possibly not Mr Seaforths favourite bit of the coast path though, as it’s the exact place he fell and had that ‘little’ cut on his knee 🥴
Listen out for the skylarks on the videos 👌🏻

Getting the little details ready for the St Davids shop and important jobs like where to put prints! We also have lots of new printed cushions to complement my own cushion designs. Also an important job is to cover up the hole in the floor 🙈

I love this elegant heron, he was my first idea to paint onto the front of our cottage. As we frantically get ready to open our second shop for the summer in St Davids in just over a weeks time, I fear he will not get refreshed this year and may have to remain slightly fading and crumbling - a bit like me at the moment!!

Exciting news! No we aren’t moving…but we are opening a second shop in St Davids! Scroll to see which building it is on the high street, it’s a huge building! We are very lucky to have this chance to open for the summer season in the city and it was an opportunity not to be missed. But don’t worry we are still staying in Solva but will now have two premises to show you all our cushion designs.

Just back from a trip to Arizona, Connor, my eldest son doesn’t get back to Pembrokeshire very often so it’s lovely to have him here for his birthday! Hooray! ( please don’t ask how old he his 🙈) His Pembrokeshire prints are available in the shop and on his website. Happy Birthday 😎

The flowers are out in full force along the Pembrokeshire coast path, and it's a sight to behold. At the moment sea thrift, Spring squill (is there an autumn squill?) and sea campion are spilling over the banks and paths, along with cowslips, buttercups, Celandine and violets all bobbing and waving gently in the wind. Bendigedig indeed! 🤍
