A surprise visitor to the shop left me in a very reminiscent frame of mind!
IN SHORT -
My art teacher from 30 something years ago in Marlborough, called in my shop to say hello, which was a lovely surprise! Did you have a teacher who was a huge influence on your life and career?
LONG VERSION -
I’d bought some prints from my old art teacher, Mr Britton ( I still can’t call him by his first name ) a few years ago and when I saw his work I realised instantly it was the sort of art work I loved. Was it nature or nurture? Had he influenced what I liked or was it a
coincidence? I was so engrossed by art at school that we ( my best friends and I ) barely left the art block. All I wanted to do was draw, paint, screen print or do Lino cut printing. I just couldn’t get enough of it! After chatting a while we discovered that we had both worked and volunteered at William Morris’ Kelmscott
Manor, which was also a nice coincidence. Thinking back I realise what a huge influence the art I was taught at school has had on my life but also my career. We sell a lot of my art and Chris’s in our shop so to have my art teacher there was simultaneously daunting and thrilling!
The last picture is the only one ( I could show you 🥴) of me in the art room with my best friend ( sorry Jo 😘) it was a fancy dress day!! Honestly 😉
