toMeet Isabella Beacon (pictured with her proud creator).

Isabella started life as a custom brief: merge the organic, slatted European oak shade of our Beacon lamp with the sweeping lines of the Jodrell clock body.

A few physical details from the workshop bench:

The Body: Hand-machined brushed aluminium structure paired with turned, slatted European oak.

The Light: Four warm LED capsules encased in a shade lined internally with genuine gold leaf to pull out a deep, amber glow.

The Control: A solid stainless steel push-button switch integrated directly into the top of the shade assembly.

Isabella was a commissioned piece, completed last week and now in her new home. But the design process birthed a sister variant—Desdemona—shown alongside Isabella as a silhouette render in the final slide.

Desdemona takes the same chassis but pushes the geometry a bit further. I’ll be fabricating the first physical Desdemona in the workshop over the coming weeks.

Both are made-to-order and are limited editions.

Here's a selection of the friends that I will be taking down to Bovey Tracey Craft Festival this weekend (12-14 June 2026).

This bunch span the life of Blott Works. I haven't managed to get any really new work ready in time, but this squad of old timers are used to hanging out together and know how to show off as a team.

A couple of these have been part of the KINETIC exhibition at MAKESouthwest in Bovey over the last few months. And Hawk will be flying off to a new home very soon but the customer has kindly allowed me to include him in this trip.

Hope you can make it if you're down Devon way. We'll all be on stand B21. It's a truly awesome show if you like beautiful and inspiring handmade items, or just enjoy an excellent day out.

Here's a sneak preview of my new floor-standing lamp, shown here as a computer render in an AI generated room with an AI generated person (who seems very happy with her lamp despite them both being digital).

This is a commission for a customer that began from her suggestion that I design a lamp based on Beacon (with the slatted wood shade) but with a curvy stand, perhaps using my house style of flat metal shapes held together with spacers, as seen in almost all of my work, and specifically Jodrell in this case.

This has been my main focus for the last few weeks and I'm really enjoying designing and making this floor lamp. I had hoped to have it finished by now (and share actual real photos) but, as always things are taking longer than planned. But it is taking shape in the workshop now and I'm hoping to have it finished and living in its new home by the end of the month.

I was hoping to have my new marimba-inspired musical side-table ready to show (and play) at Bovey Tracey Craft Festival this weekend (12-14 June 2026), but as you can see I have been busy with other things and it is still very much on the workbench.

I'm calling it "Gong" until I think of something better.

What I will be showing at Bovey however are Drop, Breeze, Balance (x2), Lovell, Hawk, Stack (x2) and possibly a Baby Bustard.
I will be taking orders rather than selling off-stand so no need for anyone (except me) to carry anything home.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend at Craft Festival Bovey Tracey down in Devon.

I've been wanting to exhibit here for years, but it is an outside marque event and I wasn't ever sure that it was the right event for my work. It is also a fair distance from me.

But it has always sounded like a lot of fun. So, finally I got round to applying this year, and I think I'm going to be glad I did.

I will be camping onsite, along with a load of other makers, and am treating it as a relaxed and enjoyable weekend away with my fellow crafties.

If you are in the area, Friday to Sunday this coming weekend, come along. There's going to a huge amount of amazingly beautiful work to look at (and buy). And a lot of smiling faces (although I guess that depends a bit on the weather?).

Big congratulations to Mobina for winning a Green Product Award with her amazing material made from recycled eggshells. I had to work with the material in a collaboration we did last year on an eggshell Stack lamp. I found the material easy to work with, beautiful to look at, robust and surprisingly versatile.
