🌱 Beetroot Growing Advice Needed! 🌱

We’ve been trying to get some beetroot growing, but our little seedlings are looking a bit sad at the moment! 🥬😅

Has anyone got any tips or tricks for getting beetroot off to a good start?

Do you sow yours directly into the ground or start them off in pots first?

We’d love to hear what works best for everyone! 💚🌱

🌱🥕 Bigger Plans for Next Year’s Veg Garden! 🥦🍅

We’re getting ready for next year’s growing season and making a much bigger vegetable bed! 🌿

One thing we’d love some advice on is how to protect our crops from caterpillars, bugs and other hungry garden visitors! 🐛🐌

We’re looking for natural, wildlife-friendly ways to keep our vegetables safe without harming beneficial insects and pollinators. 🐝💚

What works best for you? Netting, raised covers, companion planting or something else?

We’d love to hear your tips and ideas! 😊

🍅🥒 The Garden Is Still Producing! 🌱

We’re still managing to pick a few tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden, even this late in October! 🍂

It’s lovely to still be enjoying some homegrown vegetables as the colder weather starts to arrive. 💚

Is anyone else still harvesting anything from their garden?

🐝❄️ Getting Our Bees Ready for Winter! 🍂

After speaking with the Chalfonts Beekeepers’ Society, which we’re members of, we’ve made a few changes to help our bees through their first winter.

We’ve added insulation under the roof and wrapped the sides of the hive to give them some extra protection from the cold. 🐝🏡

Hopefully this will help them get through the winter safely! 💚

As this is our first year of beekeeping at Meadowtail Farm, we’re looking for a little advice from fellow beekeepers!

How does everyone prepare their hives for winter? 🐝

Do you insulate your hives, reduce the entrances, or do anything else to help your bees through the colder months?

We’d especially love to hear from anyone in Hertfordshire or the surrounding areas.

Any tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated! 💚🐝

🥒🌱 Growing Cucumbers Outdoors! 🌱🥒

This year I’ve found that growing cucumbers directly in the ground has been much more productive than growing them in the greenhouse!

All of these cucumbers have come from just one plant, and it’s still producing! 😍🥒

It’s amazing what you can grow with a little space and some patience.

Does anyone else find their cucumbers grow better outdoors than in a greenhouse? 🌿

🐝🌧️ A Rainy Morning at the Hive! 🌧️🐝

Even with the rain coming down this morning, some of our bees are still hanging around outside the hive entrance!

It got me wondering — why wouldn’t they just head inside where it’s warm and dry? 🤔🐝

Is this normal behaviour, especially as we head towards winter?

Any experienced beekeepers have an explanation? Always looking to learn more about these fascinating little creatures! 💛

🐝🍯 Our First Honey! 🍯🐝

Last month we reached another exciting milestone at Meadowtail Farm — we extracted our first small amount of honey!

We shared it with friends and family as little samples, and it was amazing to finally taste what our bees have been busy producing. 🐝💛

It may have been a small harvest, but it’s another big step towards our Meadowtail Farm dream. 🌱
