52 today A few things I feel as it’s my birthday I can get away with saying …..
First off I’m reporting a few more wrinkles, but no white hairs and more unapologetically myself than ever!
Losing someone recently has really brought home to me that none of us is here forever. Time is precious and the people we love and the memories we make are what really matter. Make time for your friends and family, tell them you love them, take the photographs, book the trips and don’t keep putting things off. There won’t always be another day.
Find your people, find your community or better still, create one. My community gardens have brought some wonderful people into my life, all connected by a shared passion and a bit of mud! No amount of scrolling, liking or chatting online will ever replace real human connection. We need more of that in this world, so get out there, get involved, share what you love and help rebuild our communities. We need each other more than ever, and sometimes all it takes is one person to get something started.
Work hard, but work for yourself. Be your own brand, never chase money at the expense of your integrity. Use your voice, stand by your values, stay in your lane and put the work in. Be real. It’s far too exhausting to be anything other than that
Swim, swim, swim! If I’ve discovered one secret to keeping fit and toned as I get older, it’s swimming. It’s kinder on your joints, works your whole body, builds strength, improves stamina and the results can be incredible. I absolutely love it
Be kind. Support others, celebrate their successes and collaborate rather than compete. There’s room for everyone and kindness costs absolutely nothing. Never forget what Roald Dahl said about ugly unkind thoughts!!
And for goodness’ sake, let’s stop being frightened of how we look! Im all for keeping myself in good nick but not if it makes me look weird . Im choosing to embrace the face and body that have got me this far. Why would I want to erase the evidence and make myself look like someone else ?
Ageing is beautiful. It’s supposed to happen. How lucky are we to get the chance?
