My view ✨

I feel so lucky that every day, when I look out from my studio, I see a different view. Each season brings something new — and right now, the hay field is growing, and the deer are returning, looking for a safe place to have their babies.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been listening to a bird making a call I hadn’t noticed before. I made it my mission to find out what it was, and after many missed attempts trying to record it on my bird app, I finally discovered it was a Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Although we’ve seen these many times before from our window, I learned that the call they’ve been making is an alarm or warning call, telling others to stay away from their babies. It’s lovely to know that, very close by, more woodpeckers will soon be flying the nest.

We’ve also had another frequent visitor over the last few weeks — only discovered after spotting several holes in the garden! That signalled the return of the badger.

I feel very lucky to have nature on my doorstep and to be able to share it with my students at the studio. 🤍

Table Loom Workshop — Session 3
Threading the Loom

This session marked the beginning of threading the loom. Ask a weaver about threading and you’ll get mixed responses — some love it, some hate it!

Personally, I love the rhythm of it. With every movement, you feel the fibre in your hands and each step becomes wonderfully tactile.

The repetition — sometimes hundreds of threads — invites you to slow down, focus, and simply enjoy being present in the process.

There is something beautiful about these images — they show working hands and remind us how much we, as humans, gain from creating.

*Session Two - Table Loom Course*

With the warps finally wound, it’s time to begin dressing the loom — a slow, careful process that starts to bring everything to life. Each warp is gently attached to the back stick, then each thread is guided through the raddle, lining them up in neat, even spacing.
There’s a quiet rhythm to this stage. It takes patience and a steady hand to keep the tension just right, but it’s here that the foundation of the cloth is truly set.
And then you begin to see it — the first hint of fabric forming, as the loom starts to reveal what it will become.

A walk in the countryside 🍃
We were very lucky recently to spot Highland cows on Butser Hill near Petersfield.

These beautiful animals are part of conservation grazing, helping to care for the chalk grassland and support biodiversity.

It was a lovely reminder of how special these shared spaces are—and how important it is to give wildlife the space they need (this photo was taken using zoom).

Moments like this are such a privilege, and with a little care and respect, we can help ensure they’re here for everyone to enjoy for years to come ❤️

Session One of the Table Loom Course - April 🍃

Over the course of eight sessions, Jenny and Clare are learning the process of creating a beautiful handwoven piece of cloth.

In our first four-hour session, we began by sitting together and talking through the yarns—where they come from and the provenance behind them. From there, we carefully calculated how much yarn would be needed, working out the number of threads required to achieve the desired length and width of the final piece.

We then began the process of winding the warp—slowly organising the yarns in a way that felt both controlled and meditative.

By the end of the session, the first half of the warp had been completed. The second half will be wound in session two.

Today, lovely Lizzie finished her woven piece on ‘Gwen’ — one of my heritage countermarch looms.

Weaving is for the senses.
The touch of yarn passing through your fingers.
The steady rhythm and creaking sound of the loom.
Watching pattern slowly reveal itself.
Even the soft, woolly scent of the workshop.

Grounding. Meditative. Deeply human.

There is always a hint of sadness when a student leaves after eight weeks of shared focus and conversation… but they leave with something extraordinary — the pride and joy of having woven a piece entirely by their own hands, from start to finish.

A hugely rewarding moment for me too 🤍

The students on the Four Week Table Loom course have been learning how to create tassels using the hemstitch technique.

I’ve always believed that how you finish a piece matters just as much as the weaving itself — it’s the details that elevate a textile to a truly high-end, heirloom finish.

All three designs are now coming off the looms and moving into the wet finishing stage, where the cloth is allowed to fully come into its own.

If you’d like to learn how to weave a beautiful heirloom piece, courses run throughout the year.

The barn has seen plenty of activity this morning.

I took the students from winding warps on the mill through to ordering them on the loom. Getting each thread into its correct place takes time, and they’re beginning to realise that in weaving, much of the work happens long before the weaving itself begins.

Taking your time is key to an enjoyable process — and it ensures the warp works with you, not against you.

For those of you who don’t know, that’s me in the first image. I’ve been teaching for nearly nine years now, after spending ten years working in London straight after my weaving degree.

I feel incredibly blessed to be able to pass on my love of weaving to others and to help widen the weaving community.

If you would like to come and try this heritage craft, I offer classes for complete beginners through to more experienced weavers and teach on small looms, table looms and floor looms.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Rebecca x

What a lovely way to start the New Year!

This week has been full of planning, colour choosing, and getting threads in order as we begin warp winding in the studio. It marks the start of our 4-week Table Loom Workshop and 8-week Floor Loom Course.

Teaching these sessions is always a joy. Students often arrive feeling a little overwhelmed by the process, but step by step you see them relax, gain confidence, and enjoy watching their designs come together on the loom.

This term, students are weaving scarves, runners, and wraps, all using 100% British wool from 🧶

I’ll be sharing weekly updates as the projects progress — and if you’re feeling inspired, future courses are open to book.

Three gorgeous wraps, handwoven by my latest group of weavers 🤍

These 100% British wool wraps were designed and woven by my students on the 8-Week Weaving Course.

Over the weeks, I hear some wonderful comments — “I couldn’t wait to get back this week” or “I can’t believe I’ve actually woven this!” It’s always so rewarding to hear just how much everyone has enjoyed the course.

I have a few spaces available on the April workshop. January is fully booked for the floor loom, but you could join the 4-week class and weave yourself a beautiful scarf or table runner.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and finds a little time to simply be — whether that’s time at the loom, knitting in front of the fire, or cosying up with a book. Make some time just for you.
