I’ve been hesitant to share this… mostly because I wasn’t 100% sure if my brain was making promises my sanding arm couldn't keep! 😅
If you’ve been following along, you’ll remember the bit of timber I saved from the firewood pile and hinted at a while back. Well, as the shaping and sanding have gone on, the vision in my head is actually starting to take shape!
When I first picked up that piece of timber, I saw the classic, sweeping silhouette of a Japanese tree in traditional art—so I decided to run with it.
This pencil sketch is the concept: a live-edge side table anchored on a solid tree-slice base, using that natural branch fork as the main support stem.
To top it off, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone with a new-to-me technique: filling the natural knots and voids with resin—specifically, Havana Bronze! It’s my own woodland nod to Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold, highlighting the wood's quirks rather than hiding them. 🪵✨
The best part? I showed the sketch and the semi-finished timber to a mate, and he immediately tried to hand over cash on the spot. So it's tentatively sold before I’ve even finished oiling it!
(Best not tell Caroline—AKA Lady of the Manor—she was probably hoping to claim this one for our home...)
Coming soon.... Ish! 😉
