Usually, we start off knowing what we want to make, then pick the right wood for the job; but there are times when some wood just sits there and demands to have something special done with it.
I had some lovely natural yew that I rescued about eight years ago and seasoned myself; and it somehow morphed into the Snow Queen's sled, a lovely, organic table decoration for my daughter, Artistic Director, Facebook Manager and all-round goodie-two-shoes Paula Shelmerdine.
It is about 30cm long. The floor is bubinga (African rosewood); the seat is lignum vitae and the runners are black bog oak. Everything else is pure yew tree!

Time for one of Grandad's bigger toys. Ride on train, a perfect Christmas gift for littles ones just finding their feet...

These beauties are nicknamed our "Steinbeck" vehicles here at Toys From Grandad headquarters because they have a lovely vintage look to them. Prices start at £22 for a pickup, £23 for van (which has a removable roof) and £25 for a wrecker's truck. Special versions can be created with individual timbers, prices vary according to timbers used.
