L E T ’ S T A L K F L O W E R S… 🌸
There’s something rather lovely about working with flowers every day, but behind all those beautiful blooms, there’s a lot more going on than you might imagine!
Being a florist isn’t simply arranging pretty flowers. It’s the very early mornings, the hours sat at the pc on the auctions carefully choosing our stock, the conditioning and preparing of every stem, the endless buckets we have to clean and refill means it really is hard grafting behind the scenes.
Fresh flowers are delicate, unpredictable and don’t always behave quite as we’d like! And of course, there’s always the risk of unsold flowers, something that comes with working with such a beautiful but perishable product.
We know flowers from an independent florist will cost you more than a bunch picked up at the supermarket, but there are reasons for that.
Firstly, floristry is a creative art. It’s knowing which flowers complement each other, how to work with colour, shape and texture, and having the skill and experience to turn individual stems into something truly special.
You’re not simply paying for the flowers themselves, but for the thought, care and creativity that goes into every arrangement.
Secondly, and most importantly, the two are not comparable, the flowers we source are from specialist wholesalers and farms, mainly coming from Dutch and South American growers who focus on bloom quality, fragrance and unique varieties.
FACT - the stems we buy will normally arrive at our shop within 48 hours of being cut!
Supermarket flowers, on the other hand, are force grown, built for high volume, lower quality and lower cost and often take 7-10 days from being cut to reach the supermarket shelves!
This is why the flowers you will purchase from us will have a lifespan of up to 14 days (in some cases more) whereas a supermarket are designed to last 3-4 days (if you are lucky)
