The current wooden figurehead, and 2 more identical pieces, were hand-carved by skilled craftsmen based (at the time) in Keithbank Mill, Blairgowrie.

I love the complex roofscape seen in this view of "J&D Wilkie" factory in Kirriemuir. So many original bits, with many internal & external alterations and additions. 🏭

I've been a wee bit quiet on here recently, but I've just been busy deep-diving into the British Newspaper Archives for the past 2 months, digging into all the info and news snippets about each of my mills, and gleaning lots of history and hidden gems of interest. 💎

Always satisfying seeing the actual building of a timeline, after weeks of reseach and newspaper-trawling!

Spent today putting all current notes into a physical timeline, to help me visualise the order of things.
Currently only 2 time-gaps, and both of those are during the World Wars, so I guess we can just assume they were consistently busy like many other jute mills!

Not too shabby for the first draft. 🙂

It's "back to work Monday" for many of us today. 😬

And whilst I don't return to full-time work until *mid-March* (that's gonna hurt when it happens!), I am getting back into my research. Happily spending this cold-snap in my office space, trawling old newspapers and drawing-up timelines... ✍️

Changing my studio back from "chaotic bike store/ parcel depot", to "actual workable space" for a writer. 😆
Next week will see my f/t job end until March 😬 so Im having a much needed tidy-up and re-jig in my studio. Hopefully I can use my 2 months off to get lots of research done, and ideally a first draft of each section.
