🌿 Buildings aren't finished when construction ends, that’s just when nature takes over. 🌿

We spotted this beautiful detail whilst surveying a project in the Lake District this past week. The stone has been transformed by a vibrant, living layer of moss and lichen and the wood has been weathered by wind and rain, full of rich texture and character.

Instead of picking materials that constantly fight the elements, what if we design with materials meant to age gracefully alongside them? The environment doesn't just weather our buildings; it gives them a true sense of place.

🌿 A CLOSER LOOK: IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS 🌿

Following the introduction of our Lake District woodland hotel cabins project, we wanted to share a little more about the architectural details that bring this design to life.

To create a striking dark contrast that blends seamlessly into the forest shadows, we are utilising beautiful charred timber facades (Shou Sugi Ban). Not only does this look incredible, but it's also a highly durable, weather resistant, and eco-friendly. 🔥

As architects and designers, it's fun to sometimes get away from the computer screen and get hands-on with concept modelling and expressing our design intent through tangible timber.

🌲 EXCITING PROJECT ON THE DRAWING BOARD! 🌲

We are absolutely thrilled to share a sneak peek of our latest venture at Archihive We are currently designing a series of bespoke, woodland eco Scandinavian retreat cabins for a very wellknown (and much loved!) hotel in the heart of the Lake District. ⛰️✨

Inspired by Nordic minimalism and deeply rooted in their natural surroundings, these cabins are designed to offer the ultimate tranquil escape. Clean lines, dramatic pitched roofs, and sustainable building practices will ensure these cabins tread lightly on the earth while maximising natural forest views.

We are proud to share this early concept sketch. Who else is ready to pack their bags?

This week on the drawing board, we’re exploring how a landscape-first approach can dictate the entire flow of a home.

In this design, the greenery isn’t just a "view" it’s a spatial and structural guide. We believe a garden should be more than just a lawn; it should be seen as an extension of the home.
