- Layout and flow –
This dining space sits off the kitchen in our previous post. We’ve tried to carry the same calm and serene feeling in here by removing all the cupboards in the
alcove and chimney breast and using the same herringbone flooring running through, extendable oak dining table and green upholstered chairs and the blind
in the same patterned fabric as the kitchen.
But the changes that made the biggest difference in here were creating a new doorway to enter the dining room from the hallway and to create an opening to
the outhouse to be able to fit a downstairs loo on the ground floor (with statement period wallpaper). By changing the opening from the hallway we’ve been
able to create a cloakroom in the back section of the dining area which is where all the coats and shoes are now stored, away from the main hallway.

- Kitchen design –
We shared a progress photo of this project a few weeks ago and work is now complete, meaning we can share finished photos of the kitchen.
This is a really transformational project for our client, as you can see from the ‘before’ photo. We recommended removing the porch built into the back corner
of the room and using the opening for the window at the back of the kitchen to install timber double doors to allow access to the beautiful mature garden at
the back.
We then designed a kitchen that felt calmer and more serene by using natural colours and textures including a wood-look herringbone floor, shaker green
doors and aged brass handles and lighting. And by introducing an island and moving the washing machine and dryer upstairs (see last post) we could increase
the amount of storage by having three sections of units, rather than just running them along the walls.
This client now has a kitchen that works so much better for her and a space that she wants to spend time in.

- Laundry room –
So many of our clients are trying to find ways to include dedicated laundry rooms or utility spaces in their home and in most cases are trying to squeeze them
into ground floor spaces, near the kitchen or similar. But they don’t always need to be downstairs, especially if they are specifically designed for laundry,
rather than as a boot room.
This client’s home had a spared bedroom that had been used as an office, but was no longer needed. So, we decided to take out all the built-in shelving for
books, remove the desk and large filing cabinet and replace it with a washing machine and separate dryer, small sink for hand washing and a dedicated
hanging space for drying above and plenty of drying racks attached to the wall.
Now, all the laundry is kept on one floor without having to drag it up and down the stairs. And what was an unused room is now one of the hardest working
spaces in this home.

- Colour and pattern –
Many of our clients come to us because they’re not sure how to incorporate colour or pattern into their home and want somebody to help them to have the
confidence to be bolder.
This principal bedroom embraces both colour and pattern with this bold modern botanical wallpaper from . The yellow from the wallpaper is
pulled out into the reupholstered vintage chair, and the mid-century style chest of drawers sits beautifully with the original floorboards and exposed purlin in this loft space. The same Calming Neutral paint colour from that was in the en-suite bathroom runs on the walls and ceilings in the bedroom space as well.

This bathroom is tucked into the corner of the loft space in this Victorian house in Roundhay. But even with the awkward sloping ceiling we’ve created a space that feels spacious, plush with a boutique hotel feel. We’ve added a bit of fun with the quirky terrazzo tile and given the whole space a hug with .colours Calming Neutral as the paint on the walls, ceiling and woodwork.
Just the place we’d like to retreat to every evening, especially as they get lighter and the evening light floods into this space.
If you would like to change your bathroom or make the best use of an awkward loft space, then do get in touch.

- Layout planning –
If, like many of our clients, you have architectural plans and planning approval for a project that you want to complete in 2026 then you need to be thinking
about your final internal layout and interiors sooner than you think.
We met this client exactly a year ago and we’ve just visited her home to see the progress on the project. The ground floor reconfiguration is nearly there, with
the kitchen and flooring installed and the downstairs cloakroom is being decorated this week.

- Fresh Start for Fresh Start –
We are starting 2026 with a fresh new look for Fresh Start Living. It has been on our minds for a while that we needed a logo and branding that better reflects who we are now and what we stand for as designers and we finally found some time at the end of 2025 to get that implemented and turned into something that looks and feels more like us.
Everything about what we do and the services we offer stay the same, it is just the look and feel of our brand that will look more colourful and fresh moving forward.

- Open Plan Space –
It’s that time of year when we start thinking about hosting family and friends for Christmas. We worked with this couple to help create an open plan space
family space that feels sociable and invites you to spend time with the hosts while they potter in the kitchen. The large steel glazed doors and roof windows at
the back let all the light in, allowing this place to feel light and inviting all year round.
Swipe to see how it looked as a traditional living room when we first met them, what a transformation!

- Bathroom storage –
The family bathroom in the same home was also in need of a revamp at the same time as the en-suite. Although this room is more generously sized, the same issues arose with clutter on surfaces and the floor to the lack of storage. And the travertine tiles and stained shelf felt old-fashioned and fussy compared with this family’s more contemporary and clean style.
So, we replaced the single wall hung sink with this teak unit with countertop terrazzo basins from and tall white taps from providing plenty of storage and keeping the clutter at bay. And the large format textured tiles from finishes the space off with a clean but cosy feeling.
