I used to be SO much braver with colour! 🎨
In our previous period homes, I’d happily paint rooms in deep reds, lime greens, mustard yellows, blues… I even had a powder room painted in a colour called ‘Sexy Pink’! 😂
But somewhere along the way, I lost a bit of that confidence.
Moving to Leeds and into a new-build home was part of it. Smaller windows, lower ceilings and less natural light meant that even medium-depth colours could make a room feel far darker than I’d imagined.
And then, of course, came Instagram and the obsession with all things neutral. I think, without even realising it, I became less and less adventurous with colour.
Over the last few years, I’ve slowly started finding my way back. Although, admittedly, I’m playing it a little safer these days! My bold colour choices tend to be reserved for smaller spaces, like our powder rooms, where I feel I can have a bit more fun without committing to living with them all day.
Would I go back to painting our main living spaces in those wonderfully bold colours again? Probably not.
But then again… never say never! 😉
It’s funny how our tastes change, isn’t it? Or perhaps it’s our confidence in our own choices that changes.
Have you become braver with colour over the years, or more cautious like me? 🤎
