Period Features is a small family business specialising in Hardware and Housewares for period and contemporary homes.

We have moved from our bricks and mortar shop in Leek to purely online but still guarantee the best products and service available. Period Features is a small company based in the attractive market town of Leek, on the edge of the Peak District. We aim to be an outstanding source of products for period homes, and to always provide excellent, friendly service. When we first opened our doors in 2001

, we mainly supplied high-quality hardware and heritage paints, but are now branching out into other areas as well. We only sell things we really like; we hope you like them too! Nearly all the products on our website can also be viewed and purchased at our shop in Leek, but it is advisable to telephone first to check availability if you are making a long journey. ✨ Victorian Amber Glass K***s – Full of History & Character ✨

Have you spotted our stunning collection of original reclaimed Victorian amber glass cupboard k***s on our website? From tiny flower k***s to beautiful hexagonal designs, every one is completely unique and full of authentic period character.

The warm amber glass catches the light beautifully and looks stunning on antique furniture, kitchen dressers, wardrobes, restoration projects and even traditional gypsy caravans. We love seeing these original pieces given a new lease of life rather than being replaced with modern reproductions. 💛

One question we're often asked is about our flat-backed Victorian k***s.

Originally, many of these were fitted with a separate brass collar (or ferrule), which secured the k**b to the furniture. Unfortunately, many of these original fittings have been lost over the years.

There are several ways to fit them today, including:
• Bonding a threaded brass insert with a high-strength epoxy adhesive.
• Having replacement brass ferrules made.
• Using a specialist glass adhesive where appropriate.

☀️ Doors open, windows open… it must be summer!

With the warm weather here, we're making the most of open doors and windows and a little fresh air flowing through the house.

Of course, summer living comes with its own practical necessities! A trusty door wedge to stop doors swinging shut, cabin hooks and bolts to keep things where they should be, S hooks for hanging all those useful bits and pieces… and, when the flies inevitably join us, a good old-fashioned leather fly swatter!

And for those hot days spent cooking indoors or out, our natural linen crossover aprons are wonderfully practical, while our traditional linen scrims are another simple household essential.
